Marinette was scribbling notes in her notebook. Suddenly, the bell rang signaling teachers and students it was time for recess.

Marinette packed her bag and stormed out of class without looking back.

"Hey, Marinette. Um, can I ask you something kinda upfront?" Chloe caught up with the raven-haired girl. Marinette didn't look at the girl nor did she slow down her pace.

"Sure." She said coldly.

"Are you uh.." Chloe paused and laughed nervously. "Are you and Luka a thing?" Marinette's heart skipped a beat but she played it off.

"No, we're just friends." She shrugged, still not looking at the girl.

"Like we're going to be, I hope." Chloe joked but didn't get a response.

"You know, my Grams warned me about you. She said you're severely troubled." She continued, trying to make the angsty teenager talk to her.

"Well, no offense, but your Gram's is a little cracked." Marinette was starting to get angry. Chloe laughed.

"Why does she rag on you?" She asked curiously and Marinette laughed bitterly.

"Pick a topic. There's my dad, the imprisoned convict or, if you'd prefer, my step-parents, an uneducated baker and a failed poet who ran away from home to be with the love of her life, that dared to adopt a child-like myself." Marinette said as she finally gave the blonde girl a look.

"Your father's in prison?" Chloe didn't know what else to say.

"Conspiracy to traffic marijuana over ten thousand pounds." Marinette went on with a frown.

"Wow, so then um... Where's your mother?"

Marinette stared at her feet and there was a pause. It felt like an eternity to Chloe before Marinette spoke up again.

"Oh, she had this cancer thing. It got her." She cleared her throat, at last. Chloe gulped. That is a lot for a girl to go through before even turning 15 properly.

"So, then you live with the Dupains," Chloe concluded.

"Dupain-Chengs." Marinette corrected her. "He likes you, you know." She said after a beat.

"Who-"

"Luka. Don't abuse his feelings." Marinette told her and walked away. Chloe stopped in her tracks and sighed.

"How about Beatles? Come on, you can't NOT like them!" Luka asked Chloe as they entered the school's cafeteria.

"Okay, yeah, Beatles are cool." She said and they laughed. Marinette, who was walking behind them, glared at Chloe's back.

When they sat down Marinette couldn't help but roll her eyes. She seemed to have taken a liking to the action ever since Chloe showed up.

"So, did you hear about Aerosmith's new album 'I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing'?" Marinette tried to join in the conversation, even though her goal was to take Luka's eyes off of Chloe for just ONE freaking second.

"Oh, yeah! They're bringing the records in the store next week!" Luka said excitedly and Marinette smiled at him.

"I.. don't like them very much," Chloe admitted. Nobody asked you, Marinette thought.

"Oh, yeah... I don't either, to be honest." Luka turned back to Chloe and Marinette nearly exploded.

"What are you talking about? You only own every single album of theirs." Marinette laughed and Luka turned red in the face.

"Well, things change. You told me that yourself." He answered her and she eyed him carefully. After a couple of seconds, she ran a hand through her hair.

"Yeah, sure," Marinette told him and got up.

"Hey, where are you going?" He asked her.

"I'm.. not feeling very well. Besides, I need to find a book in the library before the fourth period." She said and Luka frowned.

"Oh, do you want me to come with you? Maybe take you to the nurse?" He asked concerned and Marinette gave him a small smile.

"Nope, I'm good. I'll see you later." She walked away before he could respond to anything else.

As she walked out of the cafeteria she bumped into a person.

"Ow!" They both said in unison as their heads came in contact harshly.

"Watch it, Dupain-Cheng. God, cant you keep your eyes upwards?" A deep voice boomed through Marinette's ears.

"No Ivan, don't sweat it. I'm fine, thanks for asking." Marinette responded quietly, sarcasm evident in her voice. She looked up and met two brown eyes full of anger.

"You sure are feisty. I like that." Ivan smirked at her.

Marinette was about to burst into flames and start yelling at the arrogant boy in front of her, but Adrien came by her side before anything could go down.

"Heeeyyy Ivan, how's it going?" He asked as he wrapped an arm around Marinette's shoulders. He heard her groan and he mentally rolled his eyes at her stubbornness.

"Agreste." The boy nodded and went back inside the cafeteria.

The minute he was out of sight Marinette peeled Adrien's hand off of her shoulder and faked a gagging expression.

"A thank you wouldn't hurt, you know," Adrien told her and she gasped.

"Thank you? For what? I was doing perfectly fine by myself. In fact, I was just about to show this jerk how feisty I can really be." She told him angrily and he chuckled.

"Calm down, would ya? Would you really risk your perfect record for a guy that doesn't even know how to talk properly?" Adrien asked her and she fell quiet. He had a point, not that she'd ever tell him that.

"Whatever." She ended up saying as she started walking down the hallway towards the library.

"Hey, where are you going?" He asked her confused.

"Hell. Wanna come back home?" She offered with a smirk and he rolled his eyes. He entered the cafeteria and looked around. When he spotted Luka with Chloe he smiled knowingly and walked towards them.
