"And now I pronounce you, husband and wife," the priest declared and the crowd applauds. Rose and his new husband, Finees, kissed each other.
I join the crowd in standing up and clapping to the newlywed couple. Seeing a sincere smile on her face, I really hope she can have a happy normal life in this one.
They both walk down the aisle, passing the audience to greet the crowd outside. I met Rose's eyes when they walked past me. She gave me a quick smile before turning her gaze away. We had been together, sharing many pasts, good and bad. Sometimes, it's hard to contain this lingering feeling. The memories of forgotten happier times.
"So, what do you think, such a beauty isn't he?" I talked to Darren closely, so that he could hear amongst all the crowd. Still clapping but my eyes are on him.
"Hmm," Darren humming, his sight still follow the couple who already reached the door. After they were out to greet the people, Darren finally looked down and faced me. "Not even close to your beauty," he smirked.
I felt my face heated up, immediately looked away. "Flatterer," I mumbled.
As the noise inside the hall was subdued, Darren seemed to hear my remarks. From behind me, I can hear his light chuckled.
.
"Caden!" a woman's voice calls me. When I look at the source, I can see a group of people approaching me. Led by the woman dressed in a light yellow evening dress, they walked towards me while chatting with each other. Arrived before me, the woman hugged and kissed my cheek then wrapped herself around my arm.
"I thought you would not come," the woman said.
I'm now at the party, which was held in the evening hour, celebrating today's ceremony. Rose and Finees had greeted the guests and currently danced at the center. Darren was talking with some people and I left to enjoy the party myself until these people came.
"He definitely would come," a man, slightly taller than me, put his arm around my shoulder. "It's Rose's wedding!"
"You come very last minute," another man greeted me while handing me a glass of wine. 'Don't forget to drop by the lab. I know you are not here to work, but you can help us a little,' he said.
"I saw him come a few days ago with Rose, though," another young lady said. She wore a fancier gown embedded with jewels, clearly showing her higher status from the rest.
"What? When? Ugh, I should have standby in the lab!" said the man before.
They are my fellow researchers. Bright young Dorsenburg people who are qualified to join the royal research lab. Everyone comes from different backgrounds, from commoners to nobles. As long as they have skills and pass the qualifications, they could join. That's why they never hold any formalities towards each other. Always openly so close. One of the reasons why I could easily call them friends. It's bothersome to socialize back home with those formalities... well, there are other reasons too.
"I promised I'll drop by again later," I assured.
"Hey, Caden. How do I look?" the woman asked as she let my arm go and twirls in front of me. Her simple yellow dress brought her tanned skin brighter.
"This is my first-hand experience witnessing the power of makeup and beautiful dress. It can transform this bookworm into a presentable lady!" the man who wrapped his arm around me replied before I could say anything.
The woman pouted and punched him a little.
"You look beautiful," I assure her. Her face blushed a bit but smiled in confidence. "Cad, let's dance. You promised me for a dance before," she said. I remembered the promise I made to dance with her at later times once after I rejected her invitation before.
