chapter thirty three

v. enies lobby arc
Shoto Todoroki grew up already familiar with the basics of fighting and self-defense, the constant training he received from his father was the one to blame for that-- and it even got worse as he developed his quirk and everyone found out about the unique combination. So fighting with Lucci while starting all-out was in no surprise the result of his exhaustion. The man was a monster who didn't know stamina-drainage, Shoto could barely keep up.
Well, that was if he was the same Shoto from Sky Island who was completely defeated by both the tribe and Enel. He never thought he would face people who were stronger than the top 1 hero from his former world, in fact, people with the same range power as All Might came naturally in this wide and vast sea.
It was a strange place.
So Shoto worked all on his own to improve himself, and that included changing his mentality. Joining the crew to find a way to return? Such mentality and ambition will only get him nowhere. He had to find something more solid that would drive him.
And so he saw Usopp and Luffy fighting, he saw the distraught look on his crewmates' faces. And he realized- this wasn't just a simple ride to find his way out anymore. He has completely accepted the fact that he has grown attached to the crew and the world itself, even considering himself a part of all this already.
Training with the shipwrights really helped a lot, he managed to get past his usual exercise routine and went to the extreme just to cover up his flaw. And even though the change wasn't very drastic, he managed to get the best out of the 1 week of lifting and joining Kaku on his fly around the city.
And it wasn't easy.
Being away from the crew was like missing a part of himself, but it also allowed him to get a tight grip on reality and see perspectives from other point of views.
And knowing all the things he had to go through just to be able to stand on this platform today, he couldn't just stand down after a mere one-sided clash, it was like throwing his hard work down the bin after barely an hour of fighting.
"Back down, kid, you're already past your limits." Paulie noticed the bruises that decorated Shoto's upper body. And after finding out that he managed to buy time by stopping Lucci, he was greatly impressed.
Mainly because he was totally one-shotted by that man without much efforts.
"Not yet," Shoto stood up from the ground, not caring if he was barefooted and lacked his upper clothing. He couldn't let the island be shot down when the people he cares about are still inside fighting for their future. "I haven't done enough yet."
"What're you talking about?" Robin's voice was hoarse and she was visibly exhausted, but even in such state could she see just how much Shoto contributed. "Rest now, Shoto, I'm sure the crew will be here in any second now."
Shoto waved off all their words as he stretched his arms before taking something from his pockets. They were only confused when they saw he pulled out a single bandage.
Unwrapping it, he then placed it on the bridge of his nose, massaging it slightly before letting out a little wince.
"I'm sorry, I just think I broke it."
They all sweatdropped, he was carrying a bandage this whole time- they didn't question it though, it must have been Chopper's doing and concern.
"Shoto! Robin!" Chopper cried out in happiness, he was the first to join them.
