Father

Never in his life had he visioned himself arguing with his father. Never. In. His. Life. Yet here he was, standing defiantly before the man who had raised him and glaring at him distrustfully. He had cornered his father as he was leaving his study. It was a do or die situation.

"So you are saying you don't know why am I here like this?"

"No. You're being rather a nuisance. Don't you have work to do?" Zack Greene asked, but he had started to break a sheen of sweat on his forehead.

Caleb dug his nails into his palm as he drew them into a fist. It was getting harder and harder to control his temper. Soon, he'd end up crying and stamping his foot on the ground like girls. Instead, he let out a deep breath to calm his thoughts and forced a smile on his face.

"I'm aware of that. I will leave you alone after you care to explain me something I found," he spoke in his animated style.

Zack sighed and nodded his head. His face bore no expression, but Caleb could feel the uneasiness his father felt. Is he my father though? Guess he was about to find out anyways. He took out the folded photograph from his jeans pocket and held it out before the nervous man.

Mr Greene only remained standing there with no movement whatsoever. He looked zoned out. His entire face sagged as his eyes went over the picture of the family that wasn't his. He tried to say something, but nothing ever came out of his mouth. He licked his lips nervously and continued to remain silent. Caleb swiftly removed the photo from his sight and put it back into his pocket.

"So, who are you really?" he asked again as he had done at the beginning.

Edward had found nothing important. Zack Greene's record was as clean as his room. He had no criminal record, and nor did any problem occur for which he was held responsible. But you always tend to leave behind the dust of your presence. Edward had run a DNA test for Caleb, Teresa and Zack Greene ( Caleb had carefully picked out his hair from the pillows). The results matched. But only Caleb and Teresa's. Their DNA was incompatible with Zack Greene's, which meant he wasn't the father at all.

"Stop being so stupid. How would I know?" Zack Greene said. Even he thought he sounded unconvincing.

Caleb huffed in anger.

"Can't you please be honest? I got the DNA tests! You don't match with us, at all! Give me something, anything! Why can't you tell me one thing about our real parents?!"

The discussion was such a pointless one, he couldn't believe they were having it.

"Son, I'm sorry," Zack said with a change in his stance. "It was for your own safety. Your past is a total mess and now look what you have done"

Caleb could hear his patience giving up. He glanced discreetly at his watch, which read 8:30 pm. Great.

"Dad, who were our real makers? Whose sperm and egg fused together and made us?" he questioned slowly and through gritted teeth. He couldn't put it simpler than that.

"I- I'm sorry kiddo. I love you and Teresa both a lot. But I had to do this," came the reply.

"STOP APOLOGISING!"

He heard his heart pounding in his head, and his breath came out in ragged breaths. The conversation was too frustrating at this point. Caleb saw his father's face pale. His hands trembled as he ran them over his face, and he looked at the door of the house as if he was expecting something.

Or someone.

There were two loud bangs, and the ivory made door came apart as if it had been of paper. In came five to six men clad in black outfits with black masks covering their faces. Caleb rushed to protect his father, but the men simply surrounded them and stood silently with their...

Guns? Oh, terrific.

"We're ready to take you," one of the huge, terrifying men announced as he approached Caleb.

Caleb, scared, looked at his father. He was met with a look full of sorrys.

"This is your work?" he asked, hurt.

"I'm sorry Caleb"

"Oh very nice. And yo you! I don't think I'm ready for y-"

He was punched squarely in the jaw, and he immediately felt a rough pain crawl up into his bones. Caleb tasted blood and only prayed that his teeth were alright. Teeth were the essence of his good looks. No one had ever hit him in his life, except for Teresa.

Someone grabbed him by the arm, and another lifted his head by his hair.

"My hair is not to be touched," he said, his voice quaking in obvious fear.

"Shut up if you don't want to be grabbed by your neck," came the deep grumble.

That shut him up alright.

I'm going to die. That's efficient.

"Caleb," his father called out one last time.

Caleb's head screamed in pain as he struggled to look up.

"Yes dad? If you say sorry once more I swear-"

"He's alive"

Caleb almost rolled his eyes, but the agony from the jaw punch was too much.

"Yes He, The Unknown Figurine of Darkness is alive. Much good that'll do me"

"Your father is alive"

Caleb became speechless. It wasn't often that way. No witty response could make up for that. He was forced to stand, and the two guards handled his feeble body carelessly towards the door outside of which a black van awaited him.

"Dad!" he cried urgently.

Zack Greene quickly stepped before them and looked at him curiously. His eyebrows were in two bushy arcs, and Caleb found it weirdly funny.

"I have to tell you something," Caleb managed to say despite the pain in his tongue.

"What son?"

The sudden love in the word son disgusted Caleb, but he ignored it. A smirk crawled into his bleeding lips.

"I'm gay"
