Seth's nerves were on the edge of bursting before he even hit the stairs. His heart thudded loudly in his ears. His black suit suddenly felt too tight and heavy. All he wanted to do was scream like a child. The fact that Teresa was alone with the guy in there was nerve-wracking. He didn't know how sly or deceptive the Russian bastard was, and he did not want anyone to hurt Teresa at all.
They heaved and ho-ed towards the thirteenth floor. How he wished Terry to be with them at that moment! He had to stay behind because they couldn't leave their home unprotected. Jordan was leading the way with Seth right behind him. They had an extra dozen men with them, but what use would they be if Teresa already...
No, he wouldn't let himself think like that. His woman was not a weak person that anyone could just step on. She might not be a good actress, but she was not stupid either. He had fought her, and he knew exactly how quick her movements were. Gosh, her kicks were something to watch out for. Her sweet, soft smile made him smile a bit to himself. With that warmth flooding in his insides, he cleared his head and increased his pace further.
By the time they reached the designated floor, he was a little out of breath. A group of four guards stood before a room that was in the name of Vozenilek. Seth's heart started a drum roll of its own. He had a black scarf covering his face, but that didn't stop him from smirking under it. They expected more people around. Perhaps even some police protection, but there was none of that here. His black, frizzy hair was clad with sweat. He shook his head, splattering the air with drops of his perspiration. He looked at Jordan, who was staring at the men like he wanted to kill them. Well, he did too.
"Let's move in," he grumbled.
Seth nodded. The men behind him rushed on the pathetic fighters, who were hired as security by the Russian Diamond King. In less than five minutes, the guards had been taken care of with only the door barring their way to Teresa. And Schyaste. Seth absolutely did not give a shit for the stupid diamond. It had all been Jordan's plan, and if something happened to Teresa, he was ready to kill him.
Jordan walked to the door and put his ear against it. Seth was bathing in sweat. Did he hear a cry from inside? Was Vozenilek a good fighter? Any hope of meeting Teresa swept away from him. Suddenly he didn't want to be there at all. Jordan glanced at Seth worriedly.
"What is it?" he said. Seth's voice was dehydrated.
"I don't hear nothing. It's calm. Too quiet," Jordan stated, scratching his nose. "Well there's only way to find it out"
And then he kicked the door. At first, the door didn't so much as creak but on the second kick the door completely gave away. What use is a door if kicks can break it like that? Seth made a mental note to build a door that would require more than a kick or punch to break. He was glad Ben hadn't been with them. That man would've just added more to his negative possibilities.
Seth hesitated to get in, but at the end, he went in. What lay before him shattered his heart completely.
In relief.
There was a splitter-splatter of blood on the walls and even more on the floor. A thin, frail-looking man lay on the carpet with his head badly hurt. A broken and punctured piece of photo frame was thrown beside the man. Behind him, on the couch, sat Teresa with her head in her hands. Her dress was barely hanging onto her body. Her hair was a total mess. He could see the cuts and small glass pieces digging into the flesh of her thighs. Some of his men chuckled at Teresa's half-naked sight, and it irritated him.
He strode towards Teresa and squatted before her. She was crying, he realized. He looked at Jordan meaningfully, and Jordan sighed.
"Let's get out. You have no more than three minutes. These clothes should do for the time being"
Saying so, he handed Seth a large t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants. Everyone went out, and Teresa still didn't look up.
"Hey, hey it's okay. It's alright. We're done here," he whispered gently.
He forced her hands away from her face, and then she finally did look at him. Her face was bruised and bleeding alright. She had earned herself a good black eye. Blood trickled slowly from a corner of her head. There was a deep cut on her lips and a deeper one at the side of her arm.
"How did this one happen?" he asked, pointing at her arm.
"Bullet. Just scraped past me," her voice was surprisingly stable.
"I know you're hurt but let's get out of here first," he coerced her and helped her up.
"Nah I've had worse to go through. I'm all good. Hit that bastard right in the head but just hard enough to knock him out. I suppose you wouldn't want that man to die," she spat at the floor and winced.
No, she had taken a bad hit. He knew it from her raspy breathing. People don't just start breathing with a wheezing sound. He guessed she had a broken rib or two, but right then the priority was getting out of there. He handed her the clothes and started to look for the diamond. He heard Teresa ripping the dress apart, and he smiled. She still had the strength in her.
"Where's the diamond?" he asked when she said she was done.
"You mean this?" she picked up a beautiful and transparent piece of stone and teased it in her hands.
How I love you.
