After Sam arrived at Bobby’s Salvage yard, he tried to push the hurt of Stevie leaving behind.  He pulled up to see Baby sitting by the front of the house.  Dean had arrived early.  Sam put the truck into park and opened the door to climb out.

No one came out to greet him so he headed in to the house.  The screen door banged behind him when Bobby came around the corner from the living room to greet his guest.

“Hey Sam, glad you made it here okay.”  Bobby said with a smile. “Dean’s been here for a while.  He’s anxious to see you.”

“Hey, thanks.”  Sam said as he rounded the corner into the living room.  “Dean?”

“Sup Sammy?”  Dean said as he came out of the kitchen, beer in one hand and sandwich in another.

“Hey.”  Sam uttered. “You wanted to see me?”

“Yeah” Dean said, his mouth full of the sandwich.  After he swallowed his bite, “How was your...hunt?” He said with a wink.

“It was good.  Rufus had all of the right intel.”  Sam said as he peeked at Bobby, hoping he didn’t see Dean wink.  “We took down, 8 or 9 vamps, I think.”

“And after?”  Dean said, smiling with another bite of his sandwich.

“Everything was good.  Stevie is a great hunter.  I learned a lot from her,” Sam avoided Dean’s question.

“I bet you did.” Dean imagined as he trailed off in some kind of sexual fantasy.  Sam gave Dean a stern look, telling him to stop talking.

Dean peeked at Bobby and then back to Sam before he clued in that Sam didn’t want Bobby to hear what had happened last night.  His smile faded as he cleared his throat.  “Well, sorry to make this short Bobby but we gotta get going.  I have another job for us.”

Bobby, being confused looked at Sam, trying to figure out why Dean was acting so weird. Well, weirder than usual.  “What job?”

“Shapeshifter in Redwood.  Guy was charged for robbing a bank when he was away on holidays.” Dean announced.  “He has proof he was gone but the surveillance video says otherwise.”

“Going as FBI or Marshall?”  Bobby asked.

“FBI.  Using the rash of bank robberies across the country as a cover.”  Dean said as he smirked.

“Okay, well, let me know if you need anything.”  Bobby replied as he scratched his head.

“Will do.” Dean said as he motioned for Sam to head out the door.

“Bye, Bobby.” Sam waved, as Bobby flipped his hand.  Dean headed out of the screen door when Bobby stopped Sam before he could follow.

“Sam, did anything happen with Stevie?”  Bobby asked, hoping his suspicions weren’t right.

“No. We just hung out.  Dean thinks more happened, but it didn’t.”  Sam lied.  He felt bad for lying to Bobby, but he had to.

“Alright.  I’ll talk to you later.”  Bobby motioned for Sam to go with Dean.

Dean was getting into the driver side of his black beauty when Sam came out of the rickety screen door of Bobby’s house.  Dean stood half in the car and half out waiting for Sam to get to him before he said, “What did Bobby want?”

Sam creaked the door open and hopped in while Dean, puzzled got in beside him. “What?  Didn’t get off last night? Huh?”  Dean said while he started Baby with a roar.

“Dean….” Sam angrily said.

“What?  You tell me you were with a chick last night, not answering my calls or texts, and now you won’t tell me anything.”  Dean took off with a cloud of dust behind him, while Sam, frustrated, looked out of the window.

After driving for hours with just the music blaring from the radio, Sam finally broke the silence, deciding to fess up to Dean about Stevie.

Clearing his throat, Sam said “Look, Dean.  I was with Stevie last night.  And we did have sex.”

Dean, breaking out into a huge smile, turned slowly to Sam and said “I KNEW IT!!! YEAH..HAHA!”

Sam, amused by his brother’s happiness continued “Stevie’s the first woman that I’ve been with since Jess, that I could see being something more with. She’s intelligent, beautiful, sexy and man, could she take care of herself.  I haven’t seen any hunter do what she does.”

“Yeah but did have nice cans?”  Dean smirked.  He saw Sam’s face go stern, “Okay, okay.  If she means that much to you, track her down!  You gotta work for it.  Prove to her that you’re willing to do what it takes.  If that don’t get you the girl, she’s not worth it.”

Sam thought about what Dean said and thought it was a great idea.  “Yeah, I should!  She gave me her phone number, I’m going to try it.”  Sam took out his phone and scrolled through his contacts before he found Stevie’s number. He pressed the phone to his ear. It rang a few times when Stevie’s voice filled his ear

“Hey, you’ve reached Agent Steffan, leave a detailed message and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.”

“Uh, hey Stevie.  It’s Sam.  I was hoping that you’d like to meet up sometime.  Give me a call.”  Sam hung up the phone and looked at Dean.  “She didn’t answer, but I left her a message.”

“That’s the first step, Sammy. Woo that girl!”  Dean gave Sam hope that lifted his spirits.  The rest of the ride to their next job they chatted about everything, from the vamps that Sam and Stevie took on, to the shapeshifter they were hunting.

                   ********************

After months of hunting and no response from Stevie, Sam had moved on.  He still had Stevie at the back of his mind, and never forgot that amazing night they had.

Sam and Dean had driven across the country and back on hunting jobs when they made their way to Derby, Vermont on suspicion of shifter attacks.  As they pulled into Derby’s motel, Dean hopped out of the car and into the office to get their room key.  Sam handed Dean his bag from the trunk of the car and they went into their room.  The room was a decent size with a kitchenette, a table, a closet, tv and two queen sized beds.

“I call this one!”  Dean said as he dropped his bag and jumped onto the bed, marking his territory. “It’s closest to the fridge and the bathroom.  So after I eat...” Dean motioned to the bathroom.

Sam laughed and shook his head at Dean. “Sure.  Whatever you need.” he dropped his bag on the dresser across from his bed and pulled out his laptop.  Walking to the table by the window, Sam opened his laptop and searched the local newspapers for any more information on the shifter attacks. “There’s not too much on here except for the articles we already read.  I think I’m going to go to the library to see if anything interesting had happened here in the past few years.  You going to come?”

“Nope” Dean said as he got off his bed and straightened his jean jacket.  “I’m getting food and drinking some beers!  Want me to get you anything?”

“No, it’s okay, I’ll grab something.  Where are you going for beers?” Sam asked while putting his laptop back into his bag.

“Didn’t you notice?” Dean asked “There’s a bar attached to the motel.  So when I’m full of greasy bar food and beer, I can stumble home.  Oh! And if I bring a lady home tonight, make yourself scarce.”

“I will sleep in the car.  Keys?”  Sam said as he motioned to Dean to toss them over.

“ONE scratch Sammy, one scratch!” Dean said angrily and he pumped his fist in the air.

“I know, I know.  Don’t worry.”  Sam rolled his eyes as Dean threw his keys to him.  Sam smiled and walked out the door.  Dean rubbed his hands together “Beer time!” he said as he strolled out the door, closing it behind him.
