Dean and Sam sat in the car after Stevie’s phone call in silence. Sam looked over at Dean, his face full of sadness, concern and anger. Dean punched his steering wheel a couple of times then got out of the car and slammed the door behind him. Sam got out and tried to console his brother, as Dean hit the roof of his car and laid his head on it.
“Dean. What happened? What did you hear?” Sam asked as he placed his hand on Dean’s back. “Dean?”
“It was Stevie.” Dean started as he turned to face Sam, his eyes red and watery. “She’s in trouble. I think something got her. I heard something in the background, then she screamed and the line went dead.” Sam was shocked that anything could grab Stevie since she was such a good fighter and hunter.
“What did she say, Dean?” Sam asked as he watched Dean internally fight himself.
“She said something....uh, 281, 36. I have no idea what it means and I don’t know how to help her!” Dean said as he paced back and forth beside the car. Sam thought hard and long about what Stevie meant by those numbers. 281, 36. 281, 36. What could that possibly mean? Sam looked around, hoping something would help those numbers click into place.
“I got it!” Sam said as he raced into the glove box of the car and pulled out a map. Dean ran around to see what Sam was looking at. “They're roads! The numbers she gave you. They’re roads! Look here, 281 meets up with 36 right here. She’s there! Let’s go!”
Dean and Sam jumped into the car and took off in the direction of road 281 until they met up with junction 36. On the left side of the road there was a small cluster of trees, like a small forest just off of the road. They knew that she had to be in there for there were no other places that something could hide. They jumped out of the car and grabbed their guns and knives, not knowing what to expect to find once they entered those trees. All they knew is that they wanted Stevie to be okay. Closing the trunk, the guys ran into the trees and drew their guns.
They searched everywhere until they reached the middle of the trees and saw Stevie and a cloaked figure standing over her. They slowly walked towards the cloaked figure as it’s mouth opened and a light shone out. Stevie’s body started to float as the figure rose with her and the light got brighter. Dean and Sam got close to the figure and Stevie then shot off their guns hitting the figure as it screamed. Stevie’s body started to drop and Sam ran to try to catch her. Blam! Stevie landed on Sam, knocking him down in the process. Dean kept his gun on the figure as it sped past him and disappeared.
Dean ran over to Sam and Stevie while Sam got up from under her. Dean pulled Stevie into his arms and wiped the hair from her face. “Stevie? Baby? Stevie come on! Don’t do this to me!” Dean said, tears streaming from his face. Sam leaned over Dean and Stevie as he saw her eyes open slowly. They were white. She groaned a bit and Dean held her tighter as he brought her face closer to her. “Stevie! Sam, she’s alive! Let’s get her to the car!” Dean grabbed Stevie and lifted her into his arms and as he cradled her Sam followed behind, his gun still drawn. They wanted to make sure that thing didn’t come back again and try to get Stevie or one of them.
At the car, Dean jumped in the back seat with Stevie and Sam jumped into the driver seat. Sam took off quickly leaving a cloud of dust behind them. As they sped back to the bunker, Dean tried again to get Stevie to wake up.
“Baby, come on, wake up!” Dean pleaded as she held Stevie in his arms. “Sammy, why isn’t she waking up!?”
“I don’t know! It might of put her in a trance. Rowena is still at the bunker, I have Cas watching her, maybe she can help.” Sam said as he sped through the town.
“No! Not her!” Dean yelled at Sam, holding onto Stevie as tight as he could. “She’s the reason why she left! She’s the reason why she’s like this!”
“I know, Dean! But she’s the only one who can fix something like this.” Sam said, pulling the car into the garage of the bunker. The garage door slowly shut behind them when they heard that blood curdling scream again. It followed them home. Cas and Rowena ran to the garage as they followed the scream of the monster. They watched as Dean and Sam jumped out of the car and pulled an unconscious Stevie out from the back seat.
“What happened?” Cas asked as Dean, while holding Stevie, rushed past Cas and stopped at Rowena. He had tears in his eyes as he looked at Rowena.
“This is your fault! And you’re going to fix it!” Dean walked past Rowena and rushed Stevie to the infirmary. Sam, Cas and Rowena followed behind him and watched as Dean placed Stevie on a bed, he stood over Stevie then turned to look at the group. “You need to fix this!” Dean said as he closed the distance between Rowena and himself. He stood directly in front of Rowena and looked down at her small face.
“I..I don’t know what the problem....” Rowena stuttered as she looked timidly up at Dean. She knew he was mad and that scared her. Not much did, but when you mess with a Winchester, you end up dead.
“I DON’T CARE! FIGURE IT OUT!” Dean yelled at Rowena, then walked away. He looked at Sam with anger in his eyes. “Watch Stevie, I’m going for that thing.”
“Dean! NO!” Sam said as he rushed towards Dean. “You should stay here with her. I’ll go.”
“Me too.” Cas said as he stepped towards Sam and Dean. “She’s family. Family means everything.”
Dean thought for a minute, wondering what to do. “Okay, but I don’t like it. I should be the one to take down this thing.”
“But Stevie needs you here.” Sam said as he put his hand on Dean’s shoulder. “Stay with her. We’ll kill this thing for her. Make sure not to kill Rowena.”
Dean nodded and watched as Cas and Sam ran out of the room then he turned to look at Rowena, who was sitting beside Stevie’s bed looking at her. She studied Stevie’s face, her eyes and her breathing. She got up and ran out of the room and returned minutes later with a book in her hand. She placed the book on the table in the infirmary and studied it, then she looked at Dean.
“I’m going to need a few things to try to break this trance.” Rowena told Dean “I’ll give you a list and we will split up to find it. We can fix her Dean, we just need to make this potion.”
Rowena scribbled on a paper and handed it to Dean. They split up and searched the room for the ingredients and found what they could. Dean ran out of the room to find the rest and came back with his arms full of items needed to finish the potion. Rowena poured them into a bowl and chanted some words, then the bowl steamed and flashed as Rowena dropped in the last item.
“Down the hatch!” Rowena said as she drank from the bowl. Her eyes started glowing then faded back into her green eyes. She walked over to Stevie and placed her hand on Stevie’s forehead and one on her stomach. She closed her eyes and waited as her hands glowed a light white. Dean came forward and stood beside Stevie and Rowena. He watched and waited in anticipation, hoping that Stevie would come out of this trance.
Rowena stopped suddenly and looked up at Dean. “I know what’s wrong. Call Sam now!” Dean reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. He dialled Sam and gave the phone to Rowena.
“Samuel, I know what it is!” Rowena said as Sam picked up the phone. “It’s a Churel! It can only die by a silver knife to the heart. You stop it and it’ll release Stevie.” Rowena hung up the phone and handed it back to Dean.
“Now what?” Dean said as he sat beside Stevie on the bed.
“Now we wait.” Rowena said as she walked to the table and started cleaning up. Dean looked at Stevie then got up and walked to Rowena.
“Look,” Dean started as he looked at Rowena. “Thank you.”
“Not at all Dean.” Rowena said as she turned to look at Dean. Dean started to walk away when Rowena stopped him. “Do you know what a Churel is Dean?”
“No.” Dean said as he stopped and looked back at Rowena.
Rowena walked towards Dean, “A Churel is a type of witch that eats the life force of women...pregnant women.”
“Then why was it after Stevie? She’s not...” Dean stopped mid-sentence as his mind raced. “No...haha. No. She can’t get pregnant. She’s unable to have kids. Isn’t she?”
Rowena grabbed Dean by the hand “It looks like she wasn’t told the truth. Because she is.”
Dean stood there frozen, his mind racing with all kinds of thoughts. She’s pregnant and he’s going to be a dad.
*****************
A few hours later Cas and Sam returned home after the battle with the Churel. Sam ran into the infirmary and saw Dean sitting beside Stevie's bed, her small hand in Dean’s. Sam walked in and pulled a chair up to Stevie's bed. Dean looked at Sam and straightened up to look at him.
“You get it?” Dean asked.
“Yeah, we got it.” Sam said as he put his hand on Dean’s back to comfort him. “How’s she doing? Shouldn’t she have woken up by now?”
“She was awake for a bit, but then she fell asleep again.” Dean said as he kissed Stevie's hand. “She’ll be okay, she’s just a little beat up.”
“Good that she woke up. I can grab Cas to heal her wounds?” Sam asked as he slowly got up.
“Yeah, that’ll be great.” Dean said as Sam started to walk away. “Sammy! There’s something else.”
Sam stopped and looked at Dean. “What’s that?”
“She’s pregnant.” Dean said as he looked down at Stevie's hand. He grabbed her hand, kissed it and then rubbed his fingers up and down her arm. Sam, shocked slowly walked back to the chair and took a seat. The words couldn’t come to Sam, he was beyond shocked.
“But, but, I thought...” Sam started.
“Well, she can.” Dean replied, cutting Sam’s thought short.
“How far along is she?” Sam asked, still baffled by what he was told.
“Not sure.” Dean said, his eyes full of concern. “All I know is that I’m going to be a father, Sammy, and I have no clue what the hell I’m going to do. But I do know that I’ll never, ever let anything happen to them. Either of them!”
Dean got up after he kissed Stevie on the forehead, and headed towards the door of the infirmary. Sam watched Dean then asked, “Where are you going?”
“I’m going for a drive.” Dean said as he turned to look at Sam. “Keep an eye on her. Call me when she wakes up. I got something to do.”
Sam agreed then turned back to look at Stevie. She looked beautiful even asleep, like an angel surrounded by linen blankets. But Sam couldn’t shake his curiosity about Stevie and her magically getting pregnant. How did she get pregnant if she was unable to? Did she lie? Sam’s thoughts got interrupted by Cas.
“Where did Dean go?” Cas asked as he walked towards Sam.
“I’m not sure" Sam said as he leaned back in his chair. “He just said he had something to do.”
“Oh. How’s she doing?” Cas nodded towards Stevie.
“She’ll be okay but we found out that she’s pregnant. Dean’s going to be a father and he’s going out of his mind. And to be honest, so am I.”
“She told me she could not bare a child. Some kind of accident from a surgery when she was little. They had to remove her tubes.” Cas said confused. “This can’t be true.”
“Oh, but it is Castiel.” Rowena stated as she walked into the room. “I saw it myself, the child living inside her womb.”
“I don’t believe you.” Cas said doubtfully.
“Check for yourself.” Rowena said as she nodded towards the unconscious Stevie. Cas agreed, stood over Stevie and placed a hand on her stomach. His hand and eyes shone a heavenly light as Cas searched for the truth.
“She’s right.” Cas removed his hand from Stevie’s belly and looked at Sam. “She is!”
“How is that even possible?” Sam asked, baffled. “How is that physically possible?”
“I..I don’t know.” Cas said, his mind racing, trying to figure out the cause.
“Dean?” a faint voice called out. Stevie stirred as she began to slowly open her eyes.
“Stevie!” Sam called out to her to see if she’d respond. Rowena and Cas moved closer to her bed as she opened her eyes and looked at them, then she jumped back at the shock of everyone staring at her.
“There she is!” Rowena said sweetly. “It was a rocky road but you pulled through. You’re a lot tougher than I thought.”
“Sam!? Cas!? Wh..what happened? Where am I?” Stevie asked as she tried to sit up. Her head was pounding and the room started to spin so she gave up trying and laid back down.
“Take it slowly Stevie. You went through a lot.” Sam said as he placed a supportive hand on her shoulder. “You’re safe in the bunker. We had to bring you to the infirmary because you were pretty far gone and Rowena here helped save you.” Stevie looked over at Rowena as she flashed her a smile.
“What happened? All I remember is being knocked off my bike by something, calling Dean then everything went black.” Stevie tried to relive that moment before she couldn’t remember but nothing came to her. “Everything happened so fast, I had no time to react!”
“Well, it’s a good thing you managed to call Dean , otherwise…..I don’t know if we would’ve been able to find you.” Sam explained as he helped Stevie sit up in her bed. He sat on the bed facing Stevie and he kept his hands on her shoulders to balance her out. Stevie nodded a thanks to Sam then adjusted her pillow behind her back. Just as Stevie got settled, Dean walked into the room holding a white plastic bag with no logos displayed on it. Sam looked at Cas and Rowena then all three made their way out of the room to let Dean and Stevie talk. Dean stood at the foot of her bed and stared at her while she looked remorseful and sad. Stevie started to tear up as he walked towards her.
“I’m sorry! I thought I was doing the right thing! I thought…” Stevie began, then Dean stopped her.
“Stop!” Dean said softly. He put the bag down at his feet and took a seat beside Stevie, not once looking at her as he did. He leaned forward with his hands together as he thought of what to say next. Stevie knew she fucked up, she knew he might tell her to leave but she hoped he wouldn’t. She hoped he would forgive her because she left for all the right reasons, at least she thought they were.
“I’m going to talk and you’re going to listen.” Dean finally said, Stevie agreeing to his terms. “You hurt me when you left just like that. No, you didn’t just hurt me, you killed me. I didn’t know what to do with myself. I was going crazy wondering why it was so easy for you to leave. I meant it when I said I loved you and I meant it when I asked you to be my wife. If we are going to be able to move forward with what we have, I need to know. Do you really love me or am I just wasting my time?”
“Dean, I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. I do love you. I love you so much and it wasn’t easy to leave.” Stevie said as she began to sob. “I left because I love you! I left because I didn’t want to mess up your relationship with your brother.”
“I told you! Sam and I are good! What Rowena told you was bullshit! He may like you a lot but he’d never wreck our relationship, he can’t! We’re blood. But you are my family too, or at least you can be if you’re serious about us being together.” Dean reached down and rustled through the white plastic bag. He pulled out a little wooden box then got off the bed and got on one knee and turned to face Stevie. Stevie now started bawling when Dean opened the box to show a single princess cut, white gold engagement ring.
“This is your only chance to back out, to leave if that’s what you want. Otherwise, you can be my wife and we can build an amazing life and family together. What do you say?” Dean asked as he kept the ring box extended out to Stevie. Stevie could barely muster up the words because she was crying so hard. Dean smiled as a tear ran down his cheek and asked, “Well?”
Stevie nodded yes and grabbed Dean for a kiss and a long hug. Dean pulled away and put the ring on her small finger then cheers erupted in the room. Stevie and Dean looked back to see Cas, Sam and Rowena walking in. Dean and Stevie smiled and laughed at the support they got from their friends, from their family.
“She said yes! Yeah!” Dean shouted out with excitement and joy. He then turned back to Stevie and pulled something else out of plastic bag. It was a small, black onsie that read, ‘My Daddy Scored and Ended up with Me'. Dean smiled from ear to ear while he showed Stevie, but Stevie was confused.
“That’s cute! But who’s it for?” Stevie asked as she wiped her eyes from the tears she just cried.
“It’s for us, for the baby?” Dean said as his smile faded.
“Baby? I’m not pregnant, it’s impossible for me to have kids.” Stevie said as she looked around at everyone, their faces twisted with concern and sympathy. “What!? Am I missing something?”
“Baby, you’re pregnant.” Dean told Stevie. He watched as Stevie’s face dropped with shock and confusion.
“But how?” Stevie asked.
“We don’t know.” Cas said as he verified Dean’s news. “But it is a human child growing in your womb.”
Stevie was shocked but something in her was ecstatic. Not only was she going to marry the man of her dreams but she was having his baby.
****************************
A few weeks later, after Stevie was feeling better, Dean, Stevie, Cas and Sam made their way into town to do some errands and check in at the doctor to see if Rowena and Cas were actually right about the pregnancy. Dean pulled Baby into a parking stall in front of the local hospital and helped Stevie get out of the passenger side because she was still weak from the Churel attack. Sam and Cas told Dean that they’d meet them back at the hospital in an hour after they did all of the errands they needed to do. Dean nodded then wrapped his arm around Stevie’s small frame and lead her through the hospital doors. Dean helped Stevie to a waiting room seat and then checked in with the nurse behind the desk.
“Hey, my fiancé has an appointment to see Dr. Frank.” Dean said as he stood at the nurse’s station, every once in a while looking back to check on Stevie. He wasn’t going to let anything grab her ever again, especially now that his baby was inside of her. He loved that woman more than anything and he knew he’d love that baby too.
“And what’s her last name?” The nurse asked as she placed a clipboard with medical forms on the desk.
“It’s Kasher. Stevie Kasher.” Dean responded.
“Okay, get her to fill these out then we will be right with you.” The nurse said with a smile as she handed the forms to Dean. Dean made his way to where he left Stevie then sat beside her and handed her the clipboard. He put his arm around her then kissed her head as she started to fill out the forms. He looked around the waiting room to see all types of people who were sick or injured and a few who cradled their baby bellies, but one guy stood out the most. One guy that sat in the corner of the waiting room and stared at them. Crowley!
“I’ll be right back, babe. I just saw someone I know.” Dean said as he kissed her forehead and headed over to where Crowley sat. Crowley pretended read his magazine as Dean walked up.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Dean asked as he looked down at Crowley.
Crowley looked up at Dean with a pretend surprised look. “Nice to see you too squirrel.” Dean took a seat beside Crowley as he looked back at Stevie to male sure she was okay. “Keeping a pretty close eye on your mate, I see?” Dean looked at Crowley with anger rising in his belly.
“What are you doing here?” Dean asked, trying to avoid any conversation with Rowley about Stevie or his baby.
“Just checking in with my favorite brothers. By the way, where’s Moose?” Crowley asked as he looked around the waiting room. “And I see that you have yourself a play toy. This month’s flavor?”
Dean started to get more angry as he leaned over to Crowley. “You stay away from her, you hear me? If you plan to do anything to her, you’re in for a world of pain.”
“More than a flavor, gotcha!” Crowley said as his face dropped from a smile to one of fear. “She must mean a lot for you to give me that threat.”
“It’s not a threat, it’s a promise!” Dean said as he got up and headed back towards Stevie. Crowley got up and followed him back to his seat. As Dean sat beside Stevie, he saw Crowley standing in front of them and almost got up to force Crowley to leave but he didn’t want to make a scene.
“Hello my dear.” Crowley said as he leaned down towards Stevie. “The name's Crowley. I’m an old ‘friend’ of Dean and Sam's.”
“Oh! It’s nice to meet you!” Stevie said, unaware that she was talking to the King of Hell. “I’m Stevie, Dean’s fiancé.”
“Fiancé, hey?” Crowley said as his mind raced with how to use this leverage. Dean gave Crowley a look that made Crowley shudder, but he didn’t deter from his conversation with Stevie. “So what brings you guys here?”
“Well, we actually came here…” Stevie started to talk then Dean jumped up and grabbed Crowley then lead him outside. Stevie was baffled as to why Dean was so insistent in pulling Crowley away.
“I told you to stay away.” Dean told Crowley as he pushed him out onto the street. “Now leave! Or we’re going to have a bigger problem!” Crowley dusted himself off as he got up then walked towards Dean.
“I know about the baby!” Crowley said as he watched Dean turn around from going back inside.
“What did you say!?” Dean asked, filling knowing what he heard.
“We all know about the baby. All monsters, all demons, all angels, we know.” Crowley said slowly, knowing he caught Dean’s attention.
“How!? How do they all know!? How do you know!?” Dean asked rushing up to Crowley and grabbing at his black suit jacket.
“We were told by the angels. They said there was going to be a child born of two dangerous hunters, and that baby will be the death of all evil in this world. A gift from God.” Crowley said as a few people watched Dean, his hands wrapped tighter around Crowley's lapels of his suit jacket. Dean stopped and looked at the crowd that started to gather, including
a weak Stevie. Stevie watched as she leaned against the wall just outside of the hospital doors. Dean released Crowley then turned towards Stevie.
Crowley dusted himself off and shouted after Dean, “I can’t wait to meet that baby of yours!” then he walked away. Dean met up with Stevie then escorted her back into the waiting room. People asked Dean what that was about and he said that Crowley made a pass at his fiancé .Stevie was confused but knew there was a reason why Dean lied like he did.
“What’s going on!?” Stevie whispered to Dean. Dean pulled Stevie to the corner of the waiting room where less people sat.
“He’s the King of Hell, Crowley.” Dean told Stevie as he looked around to make sure no one was listening .
“What!?” Stevie said in disbelief. “What did he want?”
“He told me about the baby…” Dean started to tell Stevie just as another nurse called out her name.
“Stevie Kasher!?” the nurse called out, looking around the waiting room.
“Right here!” Dean said as he stood and grabbed Stevie’s hand. “Lets get through this appointment first then we’ll deal with Crowley.”
*********************
Sam and Cas waited outside as they waited for Dean and Stevie to be done with her appointment. A few minutes later Dean and Stevie appeared in the door of the hospital entryway and then made their way to the car where Sam and Cas where waiting.
“Hey!” Sam said as they got close to the car. “How was the appointment?”
“The appointment was good, it’s what happened before the appointment.” Dean said as he helped Stevie into the car. Sam looked at Dean puzzled then he looked at Cas as Dean hopped into the driver seat. Cas shrugged then got into the backseat with Sam. None of them talked the whole way back to the bunker.
They pulled into the garage and parked then Sam and Cas hopped out of the car and unloaded their groceries and other bags into the bunker. Dean hopped out then ran around the car to help Stevie before she got out herself. “You know that I’m not going to break right?” Stevie told Dean as he helped her out of the car.
“I know, but I want to help as much as I can until you get better.” Dean said sweetly as he guided Stevie into the bunker and into their now shared room. After Stevie woke up, Dean moved her into his room. He went out and bought her new clothes since hers were destroyed at the attack. Stevie appreciated everything Dean had done and couldn’t believe how awesome he had been after what she had done. Leaving him was the worst decision she ever made, even if it was to try to save the relationship between the brothers. Sam reiterated what Dean had told her, and that made Stevie feel better about being with Dean but bad for trying to leave. But if she wouldn’t have left and been attacked, they never would’ve known about the baby until she started to show. Stevie was still having side effects from her attack by the Churel. She felt weak and got tired really easily, that plus being pregnant added to her fatigue.
Dean helped Stevie change and got her into bed for a nap since she was falling asleep on the way home. “Dean, what did you mean when you told me that the King of Hell was talking about our baby?” Stevie asked as she cuddled into their bed.
“Nothing you have to worry about right now baby.” Dean replied as he sat beside Stevie and brushed the hair out of her face. He kissed her lips and pulled the blankets up. “Just sleep. I need my kick ass girl and my kick ass baby ready to..kick ass!” They both laughed at Dean’s choice of words then Dean kissed Stevie again and left the room.
Walking into the kitchen, Dean saw Cas and Sam unloading the groceries and sat at the table with his hands wiping the worry onto his face. “My baby is a target for everything bad or evil in this world. How am I going to protect it? How am I going to protect my family?” Dean asked, feeling almost defeated.
“What do you mean?” Sam asked as he stopped unpacking the grocery bag he was working on. “What happened?”
“Crowley. Crowley happened.” Dean told Sam. Cas turned to look at the brothers and joined in on their conversation. “No, it can’t be.” Cas said as it finally dawned on him what he had heard.
“What can’t be?” Dean asked Cas, curious as to what Cas meant.
“I heard something over ‘angel radio' as you call it. Something about a special child born of warriors, who will he the end of evil in this world.” Cas responded, as he sat at the table where Dean and Sam sat.
“So you’ve heard? Why didn’t you mention this?” Dean said as he started to get angry at Cas for not mentioning it to them.
“Wait! Wait! I don’t understand what’s going on right now. What’s wrong with the baby?” Sam asked, completely out of the loop.
“Crowley told me that the baby…our baby, is the one that Cas is talking about.” Dean said as he shook his head in disbelief. How can something so wonderful turn out to be so scary?
“Your baby is the one who is going to rid the world of evil?” Sam asked felling the same as Dean. “How is that possible?”
“It’s possible because God wanted it.” Cas replied as he started to put the pieces together. “God is the one who made this child, and he picked you to create it with him. That’s why Stevie could become pregnant, she had help.”
“Great! Good! Awesome!” Dean said frustrated and angry beyond anything. “How am I supposed to protect them?”
“How are ‘we' going to protect them?” Sam corrected Dean, trying to comfort his brother. “We’ve been through some damn hard times, and this is no different.”
“But it is Sam. That’s my family. That’s my wife and child in there and I’ll be dammed if anyone or anything were to hurt them!” Dean said as he slammed his fist on the table and hopped up. Dean paced in the kitchen as Sam and Cas watched in concern.
“No matter what happens, and no matter what comes for us, we are going to be here for you. Because not matter what, we are still your family, which makes them ours!” Sam said as he stood and grabbed Dean by the shoulders.
“We are going to have a battle on our hands but I know where to get backup..” Cas said as he stood to meet up with the brothers.
“Yeah!” Dean agreed, knowing where Cas was going with his thought. “God made the baby, he can help protect it!”
“So, we are going to meet with God?” Sam said as Dean and Cas agreed.
