Loneliness has it's perks, as well as it's side effects. Wolves can be used as case study.
A lone wolf doesn't have to answer to an alpha or work to feed or please anyone but himself.
At the same time, a lone wolf is not very strong and is prone to attacks from rogues. A lone wolf doesn't have the protection and strength that only a pack can provide. He doesn't have anyone to lean on when things get tough. He doesn't have anyone to share his sorrows and joys with. Most lone wolves do not survive for long. Some die after a week of separation from their packs and others lose their sanity.
In all, loneliness has more side effects; does more harm than good to any individual.
