"... you know what I think? I think she is deluded. Yes, that has to be it. Delusion is the one word that sums up the entire situation with her", I said, talking to Nick.
"Aren't we all?", was his short reply.
"No, we all aren't deluded. At least, I know for sure that I'm not", I shot back, indignantly.
His reply to that was an exasperated sigh.
"Why the sigh? Or, are you deluded?", I asked.
"Well, according to the dictionary, delusion is a false belief or opinion about yourself or a situation. To delude means to make somebody believe something that may or may not be true and, in one way or the other, we are all deluded, whether we agree or not", Nick calmly explained.
"Would you mind elaborating?", I asked.
"Okay, let's look at it like this. What are you?"
"What kind of question is that? I'm a human being, of course".
"And, how do you know that? "
"Duh, scientists, biologists,-"
"Exactly my point. You did not find that out yourself, did you? No, of course you didn't. You were told and made to believe that all your life and you now accept it as a fact", he explained, still looking calm as a millpond.
"But, -"
"Another question. How do you know that God exists? How do you know which one to worship? I mean, there are many religions out there. How do you know which one is the true one?"
"Well, I , um-"
"Exactly. You don't know for sure. You chose Christianity because, well, just because. Others chose their own religions for their own reasons. Even the Bible you use is not even -"
"Nick, that's blaspheming", I exclaimed.
" No, it's not. I mean, do you know who wrote the Bible on a personal basis? Of course, you don't. To conclude my argument, everyone, in one way or another is deluded, my dear. Yes, including you", he said with a smile.
His perspective dazzled me. I couldn't help but think I had made the right choice in 'best friend choosing'.
