CHAPTER ELEVEN
The moonlight peaked through the big windows in the common area, not a sound could be heard in the dead of night. The wind howled outside,it was cold tonight but that was okay for the residents of 2-A dormitories because they all probably bundled up in bed, warm and fast asleep.Except for the girl that sat at the dinner table with her earphones and eyes drooping every few seconds.
Y/N knew she shouldn't have slept before Sahūr. It was hard to wake up, especially since she had prepare her own food.
Y/N was excited for to be fasting tomorrow. Her eyes were guled to the small phone screen as she ate from her plate - although the food on her plate was enough for herself, the table at home that would be filled to the brim of various food. She couldn't help but remember how much livelier Sahūr at home would be in contrast to the lonesome sight now. And that was something that she missed dearly.
The content days and nights of Ramadan were events she looked forward to every year. It was a month of feeling blessed and thanking Allah. It was a month of self reflection, to make yourself a better Muslim - a better person, even. It was a month of bringing people together, to offer kindness and love.
Y/N sighed as she leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes. As much as being excited for the first day of fasting she was also nervous - being on a hero course meant that training everyday was necessary and compulsory.
If she told Aizawa, she didn't want her teacher to remove her from those sessions and she really didn't want to miss them out because everyday was a step towards getting to her goal to be a stronger hero.
Allah is the greatest of all. I can do my training tomorrow with no problem, InshAllah.
She recited in her head, opening up her eyes she looked around her surroundings - the only thing missing would be a tumbleweed going past because of how deserted the place was.
The creak of the floorboards caught her attention. A muffled of shouting followed by what sounded like a slap made the young girl sit up in her chair. Y/N leaned forward to look into thehallway that lead to the dorms, and there they were - Mina, Jirou and Momo tip-toeing into the kitchen.
Y/N pulled the hood of her hoodie tighter, telling herself that she should've worn a proper head covering. But remembered that she was half asleep when she woke up for Sahūr, resulting in her just throwing on a hoodie and using the hood as a headscarf.
The three girls stopped in their tracks as they came eye to eye - truly a comedic sight to see, Y/N smiled sheepishly as Mina grinned towards her.
"Y/N-chan you look like a worm!" Mina laughed. It was obviously harmless joke towards the tight fabric around her head.
"What are you guys doing here? It's nearly 4am!" Which coincidentally was also the time of her Sahūr nearly ending.
"We should be asking you that." Momo replied her class representative side coming through.
"We had a movie marathon. A horrible decision if you ask me." Jirou yawned and walked into the kitchen.
"Yeah, why are you here Y/N-chan?" Mina asked, going back to the subject.
"I'm fasting tomorrow." Y/N replied at her two classmates, who seemed even more puzzled. Y/N lightly chuckled, "It's called Ramadan, I have to fast from sunrise till set sunset for thirty days."
"Oh! I've read about this before in books!" Momo cheered. "I know fasting has a lot of benefits but, if you don't mind me asking, why do you fast?"
Mina took a seat opposite Y/N on the table, Jirou came in with her arms full of snacks. "If you guys ever wanted to know, Denki hides his snacks behind the fridge."
She placed the packets on the table."Sometimes, I think I zap him too much." The purple haired girl mumbled, judging Kaminari's lack of hiding skills. Jirou placed herself on the seat next to Mina, who had already opened a packet of gummy bears and began eating them.
"Well, fasting is like an act of worship. We fast to get closer to Allah and also it's a chance to be more grateful for simple things like food and water," Y/N explained and saw that the three girls now had their attention on her. "As well as being more compassionate for those in need. Fasting can also teach people to be patient and help break bad habits."
"It's also a really good time to spend with loved ones..." Y/N trailed off, thinking back to happy memories of the previous Ramadan's in her life.
The girls looked at each other, which made Y/N embarrassed that she had spoken too much.
Finally Momo smiled as she came up with an idea. "Can I try?""What?"
"The reasonings are...beautiful. I'd like to try and fast with you?" Momo asked shyly in hopes that she wasn't overstepping her boundaries.
"I wanna try too!" Mina waved her hands in a joy of trying something new.
"Count me in." Jirou held up her pointer finger lazily, it was obvious that she was tired from the lack of sleep.
Y/N stared at the three girls in shock, normally when she would explain fasting to non-Muslims they would brush it off as being stupid or argue that it was an extreme act of religious belief.
"Sure! I'd be more than happy." Y/N smiled. "But I think the weekend may be a better option to try fasting, since it would be easier." She didn't want to put her friends at risk - if they haven't fasted before, who knows how their body would react to the sudden change.
"Okay, so Friday night let's have a massive midnight feast! Then we can spend the whole of Saturday together!" Mina planned, getting a three nods of agreement.
