I had gotten so used to not being with James, it felt so good to finally not feel unloved.
Truth is, I felt so beautiful.
Pete was making me feel this way.
Though I was encouraged to cheat and threatened to treat James the way he treated me, I didn't know I'd actually have an affair. Actually stepping out on my husband, but I was doing just that.
And I didn't feel bad, at all.
"I can't wait for you to finally divorce that fool" Pete expressed sleepily. We were in his bed, it was the morning after a very eventful night together.
"I think I'm ready to. We've been separated for a while, I don't live there, I got a restraining order, and he's been treating me bad for a long time."
"You deserve better"
"I have better" I giggled, stroking his cheek. He always looked so sexy in the morning.
The alarm on my phone went off, signaling it was time to get ready for work.
Work was going smoothly. Security has told me that James would show up to my job but they always made him leave. Colson stays with me for most of the day so I'm never alone, and Pete calls in to make sure I'm good.
"Let's go ahead and get up" I yawned.
We both rose from the bed and did our routines. Pete ordered my breakfast to the office and we went our separate ways for work (not before giving each other a goodbye kiss).
The drive to work was a good one, I was in a really good mood.
I arrived at work and parked in my regular parking spot, then I called Colson to make sure he was up and getting ready.
"Hey Col, you up?"
"I am. Why didn't you wake me? I woke up and you and Pete weren't there"
"I wanted you to sleep in a bit, you've been working so hard. I don't know why you won't take some time off"
"Because I don't want to. I wanna be there to make sure you're safe."
"Security is here"
"That's not enough. I gotta be there with you"
"Colson, I love you so much"
"I love you too" He replied
"But you need some time off. I've been back at work for a while, and he hasn't even been able to sneak a peak at me. Take some time to yourself, you've earned it"
After a little more back and forth, he agreed to stay home. I got out the car, locked the doors, and made my way into the building.
It was a typical day at work. I had numerous meetings to attend, people to call, and files to go over.
It wasn't until 10:30 pm when I finished at the office. I could have went home on time but I needed to desperately get my work done.
No one was there except for the janitors, my security had apparently left an hour ago (thinking I had left).
The walk to my car was a scary one. Something in my gut told me to get my phone, call one of the boys, and wait it out inside the building.
