"Okay, food's done, table is set, now we're waiting on my friends" I whispered to myself.
I was having a small dinner with a few close friends- only Colson, Pete, and Asia.
I made Alfredo with cheesy garlic bread, red wine, and a red velvet cake sitting on top of the counter.
Not the fanciest dinner but it was only a cool little "friends night".
After about 10 minutes, Asia arrived with a bottle of Rosé.
"Hey Zi" She greeted with a friendly grin. I smiled back and gave her a hug. Once we pulled apart, I led her into the dining room so we could sit.
"Ooh, the food looks amazing! Are we waiting on the guys to eat?" She asked
"Oh no, help yourself."
She threw some pasta and bread on her plate and immediately started eating, making me laugh.
"So tell me" She says while taking a quick sip of wine, "How does it feel to finally be a single woman?"
I giggled, "AMAZING! I've never felt so good, honestly."
"Right, so now you can finally be with Pete"
I rolled my eyes playfully, "I just got my divorce finalized, I do not wanna jump into anything too fast"
"Well, you kinda already jumped in while you were still married- if we're being technical"
I have her a 'you know I can still fire you, right?' look and she threw her hands up in defense.
"Look, all I'm saying is- Pete makes you happy. You deserve to live your happily ever after"
"Who knows if he's my happily ever after?"
"I do, and I think you do too"
I waved her off and made my plate. I occasionally thought about what she said but tried my best to stop thinking about it. We sat in silence until my front door opened, revealing Pete and Colson.
"Oh Yeah, just walk straight into my house" I laughed
"I mean, the door was unlocked, so we thought that meant come in" Pete laughed
I got up and hugged them both (making sure to hug Pete a little tighter).
"The food looks great, what place did you order this from Zi?" Colson asked with a sly smile. I faked being offended and flipped him off.
"For your information, I made the food. And I made the dessert, but the wine is bought" I chuckled. I poured myself a glass and sat down
"What's for dessert?" Pete asks. Before I could respond, Asia interrupted and said "Zianna is, actually. But there's only enough for you"
This made me hide my face in pure embarrassment while Colson and Asia laughed their heads off.
"I'm so sorry for my friend here" I apologized, shooting a glare at Asia (who was on her third glass of wine).
I took the bottle from her and gave her some water to sober up.
"No worries, I actually really like that option for dessert" He shrugged
"We're having red velvet cake, Pete"
"Oh, so what I'm hearing is, you AND cake? Sounds like imma be stuffed tonight"
I hid a smile as he winked at me.
Little snickers coming from Colson could be heard, I flipped him off once more.
"Look, how about we eat, then watch a movie"
"Sounds good" Everyone agreed.
We all ate while discussing a plethora of different topics, ending up not watching a thing. Somehow we got on the topic of kids- Asia was saying she only wanted one child.
"Yeah, I agree. One is enough for me I think" Colson said
"I want three at MOST. One at least" I chimed in. I looked over at Pete and saw he was looking at me, "How many do you want?" I asked him
"Well, doesn't matter- as long as you're their mother." He responded with a sweet tone of voice. Asia cooed and leaned into my ear
"If you don't want him, I'll gladly take your place" She whispered
Our conversation went on for maybe two more hours before Asia left. It was now just me and my former roommates.
"You know guys..." I started, "I wanna thank you two for allowing me to stay with you guys when everything was going on, you guys helped me out a lot"
"Well, thank you for finally divorcing that loser" Pete joked. We all got up and did a group hug, I felt so safe in their arms.
"Well, it's getting late and I got an early start in the morning. Pete, ready to go?" Colson grabbed his jacket and handed Pete his. I hugged Colson and he left the house. Pete was about to leave until I grabbed his arm
"Can't you go home tomorrow morning?" I asked
He nodded and texted Colson to tell him he was staying.
With a smirk upon my lips, I had him follow me to the bedroom with the wine.
