Soulmate Scenario: You have a tattoo that matches your soulmate's. It glows gold when you are in the same room and a small gold light moves between your wrists when you are standing together.
Note: This takes place between Iron Man 2 and Avengers.

You grabbed your messenger bag and your coat and made your way out the door. You were a reporter for The Daily Bugle and were being tasked with interviewing a few famous inventors and business owners at the Stark Industries Convention. This was a big assignment, the biggest you'd ever been given, and you wanted to make sure you were prepared.

You entered the limousine the newspaper arranged for you, greeted the driver, and pulled out your notepad to review the questions you were going to ask. Your soulmate mark shone in the light, a circle with a triangle in the middle, a few lines going around the triangle and circle. You always thought it was odd. You knew the mark couldn't apply to you, causing you to wonder about what it could mean to your soulmate.

After a few minutes, the limo pulled up to the red carpet. You thanked the driver, got out, checked your coat, and met up with your photographer.

"Hey, Jordan!" You greeted, giving her a nudge on the shoulder.

You and Jordan did most of your assignments together, sometimes coordinating outfits. This time she was wearing a gold knee-length dress and light makeup, you wearing a red gown/tuxedo.

"Hey, Y/N! You ready to meet some of New York's biggest people?" Jordan asked.

"Yep! But remember, it's just another day on the job."

In truth, you were excited to meet people like Pepper Potts, Tony Stark, and Obadiah Stane. They were all important people, and you wanted to make a good impression. Who knows, they may ask to see you more often. Your thoughts were interrupted when the first limo arrived. Realizing you would have more luck asking questions throughout the event, you and Jordan decided to head to your table and wait.

As a crowd of people walked in, your soulmate mark glowed a radiant gold, the color you knew meant your soulmate was in the same room as you. Jordan, of course, noticed.

"Woah! What if your soulmate is one of the inventors?"

"That sounds nice, but I'd be okay with one of the caterers too." You said.

A rich and famous soulmate did sound nice in theory, but there was all the publicity that came with it. You didn't like the idea of every detail of your life being advertised. You also didn't care about money or status.

The time came for you to walk around the room and do a few interviews. You decided to start with Pepper Potts, who was sitting at a table near the front and listening to the live band play.

"Miss Potts? I'm Y/N Y/L/N of The Daily Bugle. Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?"

She smiled at you. "I don't mind at all! Please, sit."

"Thank you. So, what were you feeling when Mr. Stark asked you to become CEO of his company?"

"I felt a lot of emotions. I was definitely shocked, but I think I also understood why he asked me to. I definitely enjoy my job."

"What is it like being in charge of a company as large as Stark Industries?"

"It's a little overwhelming at times, but I think it's like that with any large business. It's nothing I can't handle, and it's a very rewarding position."

"Thank you so much, Miss Potts. I just want to say I admire your dedication and work ethic."

"Thank you." She looked over her shoulder and saw one of the workers waving her over. "Excuse me."

You nodded and looked around the room. You realized your recorder battery was about to die, so you began to fish in your bag for a new one.

"Hello." You heard someone say.

"Oh, I'm sorry, am I in your seat?" You asked as you looked up.

"No. I wondered if you wanted to interview me as well?"

You took a look at the face of the person and realized it was Tony Stark.

"Of course."

The two of you moved over to his table and sat down, your hand still in your bag. Once you sat down you began to look for the battery again.

"Sorry about this, I need to get a new battery."

"Take your time."

You replaced the battery and noticed the string of light flowing between your wrist and Tony's. It was a glittery gold light, something you could only see if you were close enough.

His eyes met yours.

"So you're the person I have to spend the rest of my life with?" He asked.

"Yeah. Sorry, you're stuck with me."

"No, it's fine. You're probably one of the first reporters to not force an interview and be polite about it. I'd love to get to know you, Miss/Mr...?"

"Y/L/N. But you can call me Y/N."

"Well then Y/N, call me Tony. Come on, let's finish this interview at the bar."

He took your hand and led you to the bar where you finished your interview. Looks like Jordan was right.

A little less than 2 years later...

"Anthony Edward Stark I swear if you-"

"Y/N, I'm gonna need you to calm down."

"Calm down? You're telling me to calm down when my boyfriend and soulmate is trying to fly into a portal from space?"

It seemed like just yesterday you had found out Tony was your soulmate. Now you two were official to the public, you owned your own magazine, and there was talk of an engagement. No promises had been made yet, but you were willing to wait. But now he was flying into the unknown with no promise of coming back.

"I know hon, but I have to do this," Tony argued.

Your eyes were beginning to tear up. "Don't you dare leave me."

"I won't. I'll be-"

He lost connection. You gasped and turned to look at the news with everyone else in your office. They all shot you looks of sympathy as the wormhole close, Tony falling out of it.

The fight was about 20 blocks from where you were. You ran down the emergency stairs, got into your car, and drove to the end. All of the monsters had retreated, the most you were worried about was crowds and the occasional roadblock. Once you reached the Avengers, you got out of the car.

"There's a shawarma place around here. I don't know what that is, but I wanna try it." You heard Tony say.

"You won't be trying anything for the next month, sir." You remarked.

Everyone turned to look at you as you knelt down next to Tony. Tony's expression was a mix of shock, relief, and fear. Mostly fear.

"Y/N I-"

You cut him off with a passionate kiss.

"Don't you ever do that again."

"If that's how you greet me afterward I may have to."

You laughed and helped him up. You did end up going to the shawarma place with Tony and the Avengers. It wasn't too bad, especially since you left with a shiny new accessory.
