In a way, I always knew this would happen.

He always talked about her.

"You would love her, Y/N." He would say.

"You remind me so much of her." He would tell me.

I fought Thanos in 2018, and felt myself fade to dust. When I woke up, I was walking through a portal and fighting Thanos once more. Five years later.

We lost Nat and Tony. And I lost Steve.

Before he put the stones back, he sat with me by on a bench the lake.

"I missed you, Y/N." He said.

"Me too." I replied, reading my head on his shoulder.

He wrapped his arm around me and pulled me closer, sighing in content. I closed my eyes as Steve hummed It's Been A Long Long Time. We heard heavy footsteps and Bruce spoke.

"Hey Cap, it's time to go."

Steve removed his arm and looked at me. I gave him a quick peck on the lips, stood up, and grabbed his hand. We walked to the quantum tunnel. He said his goodbyes to Sam and Steve, shrunk down, and came back.

Bucky was the first to notice him.

"Sam. Y/N."

We walked over and followed his gaze to an old man on the same bench he and I were just on. Sam went to him first, and he came back over with Steve's shield.

Confused, I went over to the man on the bench myself.

"Steve?"

"Hey Y/N."

"What happened?"

"I got my best girl back."

I felt the blood drain from my face as he said those three words. "Best girl back." As if he didn't spend the two years we had been together calling me his best girl.

"I thought I was your best girl, Steve."

"I'm sorry."

"I hate you."

I walked away, past Steve, past Bucky and Sam and Bruce. Away from everyone. He lied. I wasn't his best girl, because I could never be her.
