Chapter 13 - The new girl

"Did you hear about the new student?" Vana asked her friend as she leaned on a nearby locker.

"What about her?" she answered bitterly.

"Damn! What's got your panties in a twist?"

"It's nothing." She replied sharply.

"Okay..."

"What do you know about the new student?" she asked.

"Well nothing; I just heard rumors. Her name's Melanie, she slept with five different guys; Daniel included. She had a thing with the substitute teacher and they got caught. She was pregnant and that's why she missed last year so technically she isn't that new of a student. She - "

"Wait!" she said effectively cutting off Vana.

"I know it is rumors and all but you said she isn't that new of a student so how come we've never seen her before?"

Shrugging she replied, "Like you said they're just rumors. Hey, why don't we talk to her?"

"You want us to talk to her?" she asked as her eyebrows rose skeptically.

"Yeah, I don't see why not. She's new and she's definitely going to need some friends. Why are you so against it?"

"Oh I don't know," she said shrugging, "perhaps it's because Liam -."

"Hi! I'm sorry for cutting you off like that but I heard you saying Liam and I just wanted to know if you knew where he went. I'm Melanie by the way." New girl, Melanie, said as she smiled brightly at the two.

"Hi, welcome to Hillview High. I'm Savannah but my friends call me Vana." Vana said as she outstretched her hand waiting for a handshake which only received a disgusted look from Melanie.

The two friends glance at each other, having a conversation with their eyes.

'What's her problem?' Vana questioned.

'I don't know.'

"Yeah, I'm still here; waiting for an answer. How do you know Liam and do you know where I can find him?"

"We've never spoken; I just know his name from the roll."

"Oh, so what are you doing? Stalking him?"

"Okay. What's your problem?" Vana butted in.

Sighing Melanie replied, "I'm sorry; I'm just really worried about him. He's my boyfriend."

"HE'S YOUR WHAT?" another voice yelled.

"Did you just say Liam's your boyfriend?"

"Yeah... who are you guys?"

"We're his best friends and trust me, you're not his girlfriend." Damian replied.

"Excuse me?"

"You're excused; just don't take too long, we were having a conversation." Damian replied instantly.

Smiling Vana added, "Anything else you'd like to know?"

"No! Thanks for wasting my time, losers." She replied as she stormed off leaving a snickering group.

"Hi, I'm Damian and this is my pal, Grayson."

"I can introduce myself; and pal really?"

"I'm Savannah but y'all can call me Vana and this is my best friend -"

"What are you students doing here? The bell just rang; get to class!" the grumpy Physics teacher yelled causing the group of four to jump in fright.

"Well we have to go, see y'all around." She said as she grabbed Vana's arm dragging her down the hallway.

"What was all that about? And what's with the sudden change of heart on befriending Melanie?"

"Did you not see the look she gave me? Seriously it's just a handshake; and I just wanted to help her out." Vana said pouting a little at the end.

"Well she clearly doesn't need our help."

"You never said why you were against it, you know?"

"I came earlier today because I tagged along with Daniel to his football practice and I saw her making out with a guy from the swim team. And Darius, that guy who's constantly asking me to be his girlfriend; cornered me by the lockers but that's not the worst part. Liam came in at that moment and said her name before running out the building. I've been looking out for him and it's almost lunch and he isn't here. I don't think he's coming back."

"Oh love, come here." Vana said with her arms opened wide; as the duo stopped outside of the drama room.

Hugging her tightly Vana said, "Maybe it's time you -"

"Nope!" she said shaking her head.

Hearing the warning bell, the two girls let go.

"I'm off to the library; I've got a free period. I'll see you at lunch." Vana said as she left.

Taking a deep breath, she entered her class for the next forty minutes.

~Lunch~

"Hello?"

"Hello Beautiful, what's wrong?"

"I'm just missing someone, that's all."

"Aww, do you miss me like I miss you?"

"Yeah sure, I miss you."

"You don't sound sure." He said.

Smiling she said, "I miss you okay? I miss you."

"Yes!" He exclaimed childishly.

Laughing she asked, "So what are you up to?"

"I'm a bit lost actually. I'm at Old Tim Street? Well that's what's left of the sign."

"Old Tim Street? Oh! I know where it is. Okay walk towards the street sign and take a left, you'll come out a little way from the park. It's a short cut really but you should know your way around from the park. It's close to school."

"Speaking of school, are you at school?"

"Yes I am; I've got to go meet my friend in the cafeteria now though so call me or text me when you get home?"

"Yeah, I'll do that."

"Okay, good. And thank you for cheering me up."

"No problem, I've got you Beautiful."

Smiling she replied, "and I you Charming. Talk to you soon."

"Talk to you soon."

With a soft smile on her face she left to the cafeteria.

With a small smile on his face he began his journey home.
