POV:ASHLEIGH
His deep baritone encompassed the crowd through the mic.
His hair was still glistening with the rain drops.
And he still looked like the person who crushed every emotion in me with all the brute force he possessed.
I clenched my fists. Trying to fight the sense of betrayal. The biting cold of being let down once again.
"Good Evening." He simply said. And I could feel the tears threatening to spill again.
"Hope you're having a great one." He said. His smile blinding. But somehow, his voice sounded forlorn.
Like he was missing something. I clenched my fists even tighter, hoping that I was that something. This boy is driving me nuts!
After a choruses of cheers, he said, "There's one person here. She makes me smile when I'm down. She makes me feel like I'm worth something. She makes me feel like I am something. She makes me feel like living again. And she is my everything, so this is for her."
My heart was beating faster than Usain Bolt's sprint when he won that track race.
**When I was young me and my mama had beef
Seventeen years old kicked out on the streets
Though back at the time, I never thought I'd see her face
Ain't a woman alive that could take my mama's place...**
My heart broke.
Not because of his words. No.
It broke because he was singing for his mother. Not for me.
For his mother.
And I couldn't do anything but smile as he did the perfect impression of 2Pac.
I couldn't do anything but wish he was singing something for me. I downed my Mint Julep before he reached the chorus and asked the bartender to make it more potent the next time.
I closed my eyes, my back facing him. And I let myself enjoy the bitter sweet memory of his voice. Because I was letting go.
Whatever the damn fúcking bet was... I was letting go. I don't wanna do this anymore.
But before I could drink another one of those much awaited Mint Jelups, he spoke again.
"And this is for someone who'll never forget what they mean to me. I'll make sure of that. It's to let them know I'm never giving up. And I mean it." He said with conviction. The throng began shouting and yelling encouragement.
* When the road gets dark
And you can no longer see
Just let my love throw a spark
And have a little faith in me
And when the tears you cry
Are all you can believe
Just give these loving arms a try
And have a little faith in me
And...
Have a little faith in me
Have a little faith in me
When your secret heart
Cannot speak so easily
Come here darlin'
From a whisper start
