Chapter 20

hey, awfully sorry but due to the lack of motivation i have this may be the last time im writing this week. i may upload a chapter on sunday but idk. also due to work reasons im not uploading on wednesday anymore

next week ill hopefully go back to my original uploading schedule, monday tuesday thursday and sometimes sunday. hope u all understand

I wake up to the sound of my table being rattled, the familiar feeling of my phone vibrating against the hard wood. The urgency of the call is practically impossible to not detect, almost as if the phone is calling out for me to pick it up and answer its call.

I sit up and yawn, stretching my arms and rubbing my sleep filled, tired eyes. I pick up my oscillating phone off my bedside table, and I see the blue light that stings my eyes. I see that Mahiru is trying to get through to me, so I accept her call. I click the green button and hold the phone up to my ear.

"Hello?" I groan, pushing stray, frizzy red strands of hair that block my vision.

"Koko! You have to meet us at the Hanamura Diner right away!" she gabbles, some distant sounds of chattering lingering in the background.

"Huh? Why?" I query, cocking my head.

"Chichi's been nominated as an Ultimate!" she squeals.

I gasp and cheer loudly in bed, pumping my fist up in the air. "Oh my god!! That's such amazing news!!"

"I know right! Come meet us here as soon as possible, and bring Kaz!!" she rambles, hanging up and not giving me a chance to say my goodbyes.

I quickly slip out of my bed and rummage through any drawer and hanger in my room for some fancy clothes to wear. This is a special occasion, so I must wear something nice. Soon, I manage to find a long, Victorian dress, a black lace parasol and some silk stockings to wear, so I put them on in a rush, then apply my makeup. I rush out of my room, clutching my parasol in hand, then frantically knock on Kaz's door with the other, desperate for an immediate response.

"What is it Koko," he moans from the other side, his voice croaky.

"Come on, we gotta go!"

"Where?"

"The Hanamura Diner! Chichi's been nominated as an Ultimate!"

"Oh shit! Hang on out there, lemme get dressed!" he yells, and I giggle, going over to grab my lace up boots I'd quite recently bought.

Just as I'm finishing up my laces, Kaz rushes out of his bedroom, wearing one of the outfits I created for him. His beanie is slung lazily over his head in some sort of rushed attempt. He comes over and sits by me, tugging his shoes on his beet and tying the laces. He gives me a look and when I look back over at him, he blushes, a questioning look in his eyes. "Is Buki coming?" he asks sheepishly as he stands up, yet his attention still lingers on his feet.

"Well, she should be! I mean, she is part of the friend group after all!" I smile, and the two of us exit the apartment, travelling down the stairs. "You two are getting pretty close. it seems like you two are going to work out."

He responds with a small chuckle and he unlocks his car as we're jumping the last few steps of the stairs, then we clamber into the seats. He takes the wheel as I'm clipping my seatbelt in and reverses out of the parking spot, then he drives us off the estate.

The car ride is silent, yet fast. A minute ago we were just skipping down the steps and talking about Kaz and Ibuki's relationship, and now the minute I blink we're in the Hanamura Diner car park. I see our friends wave at us as Kaz tugs the gearstick, then we step out the car. I spot Kaz looking at Ibuki's colourful punk outfit and he blushes.
