Lucas' POV
"I don't know...should I? What if she says no? What if I make a fool of myself and say something completely random and she laughs in my face?"
"Bro, calm down. Just walk up to her and ask her out! It's easy. Just...pretend I'm Kaitlyn." Court suggests and I roll my eyes.
"Okay...um...hey, Kaitlyn...wanna go to the movies on Friday?"
Court pretends to twirl a piece of his long fake hair and then looks up a bit, batting his eyelashes and saying in a high pitched girly voice, "Oh LuLu! I'd absolutely love to! You're so cute I'd thought you'd never ask! I could just...kiss you!" He makes heart eyes and a teasing kissy face at me and I smack him in the head.
"Ow! Sheesh...no girl is gonna like you."
"This isn't helping...now I'm just picturing having to kiss you..." I shudder at the thought and gag.
Court scoffs, placing a hand against his heart and gaping at me, letting out a dramatic, "Uh! I take great offense to that!"
I roll my eyes, turning away from Court and throwing the basketball into the air and watch as it swishes through the hoop. Today I'm finally getting the guts to ask out Kaitlyn. Best friend and crush. But, she doesn't know that. Or maybe she does. She did kiss me on my birthday...maybe she does like me? Dad says I have charming good looks and could get anybody I wanted, but I just wanted Kaitlyn.
I just didn't think she wanted me.
So, here I am sulking in the driveway, shooting hoops with Court and dreading when Kaitlyn comes over to practice our lines at 4. To say I was nervous was an understatement. Louis was even setting up tea in the backyard for when she arrived. He's weird and has a 'tea time'. Usually it's with Harry, though. But, this time, it's Louis, Harry, Kaitlyn, and I. One of those...meet the parents type of things even though Kaitlyn already knew them really well. Now their getting to know her as my girlfriend...not best friend. Hopefully. If she says yes, anyways.
"I just can't think of what to say to her..." I groan.
"Well, better think fast...cause here she comes." Court pat me on the back, throwing the basketball and making it in before walking off to go home.
I quickly try and look preoccupied in basketball as I dribble back and forth before shooting and I hear Kaitlyn's footsteps come up behind me. I miss the hoop from distraction and grumble under my breath. Damn nerves messing me up.
Kaitlyn giggles. "Having fun there?"
I pout at the basketball and chuck it to the side. "Screw basketball."
"Tea time!" Louis' voice screeches from inside and Kaitlyn and I laugh, going around the side of the house, through a gate, and to the backyard where Louis and Harry are sat at a round table with an umbrella coming out of the middle of it. On the table is a pitcher of lemonade and a tea kettle with the saucers and tea cups on them.
"So, Kaitlyn, how are you?" Harry strikes up a conversation with her and I shrink back into my seat a little, hoping and praying that they don't embarrass me. Knowing them, though, that probably won't be likely.
Kaitlyn awkwardly brushes a piece of her hair behind her ear. "Um, I'm good, I guess. How are you?"
"Brilliant. You know who else is brilliant? Lucas. He's very smart, you know. Great at Maths, History, Science, anything. You two could study together some time. You know...like a study date." Harry tries to say subtly. Keyword: tries.
I pinch the bridge of my nose, not looking at anybody and mentally stabbing my papa right now. I hear Louis cough awkwardly to break the silence and then starts talking about his footy game coming up. They seemed buzzed about it while Kaitlyn and I just listened in, occasionally looking at each other but then looking away, blushing.
After some tea, lemonade, finger sandwiches, and crumpets, Kaitlyn and I go inside to practice lines and that's when I grow more and more nervous. Why? We have to practice the kissing scene. For the first time. We went to the living room and Kaitlyn grabbed her script.
I grabbed mine even though I knew it by heart because I had been waiting for this scene forever. Kaitlyn sat down on the couch and I sat down next to her, clearing my throat before saying in a gentle voice, reading off my script, "Are you alright? I heard Umbridge gave you a rough time the other day."
Kaitlyn looked down, whispering in a breathy voice, looking a bit off her script. "Yeah..I'm okay. You know, it's worth it. It's just...learning all this... makes me wonder whether he'd known it."
"Cedric..Cedric did know this stuff. He was really good! It's just...Voldemort was better." I read in my best dramatic voice.
"You're a really good teacher, Harry. I've never been able to stun anything before." Kaitlyn looks upwards, pretending mistletoe is above us and I feel my heart racing faster and faster. "Mistletoe."
"Probably full of nargles, though."
"What are nargles?"
"I've no idea."
My heart skips a beat as we both lean forward and Kaitlyn bites her lip a bit as I get closer and closer until finally our noses are brushing and our lips conne-
"DINNER'S READY!"
Kaitlyn and I both jump in alarm, our foreheads banging against each other's and we both cry out in pain, rubbing our heads as we blush madly, avoiding each other's gaze. Goddammit. I was so close to kissing her.
When we get up to eat I walk by Harry and growl under my breath, "Lip blocker."
Harry smirks, ruffling up my hair a bit. "Pay back for cock blocking me at your birthday."
I glare at him and sit down at the dining table next to Kaitlyn and Louis and Harry are opposite us. We awkwardly dig into our spaghetti and garlic bread while Harry and Louis keep staring us down and I just really want to dig my way to China...for the millionth time.
Clanking forks is all you can hear throughout the room and the occasional crunching of eating bread and slurping of noodles. Finally, though, Louis breaks the silence and abruptly says, "LuLu, isn't there something you'd like to ask Kit Kat?"
I widen my eyes at him and gulp, sending Louis a look that kills and Louis' smirk widens. Kaitlyn just looks confused and Harry slurps up a noodle awkwardly. My cheeks heat up as the blood rushes to my face. I've never been so embarrassed in my entire life. I've never had a crush on a girl before so this just makes it worse.
Clearing my throat, I look over to Kaitlyn who looks so lost on what's happening and I finally swallow my pride and try to find the words to say. "Uh...umm...I-uh.." I look over to Harry and Louis who are urging me on and Kaitlyn who is looking at me attentively. "I..uh...um..I just wanted to-to ask...if..you would um...would you maybe want to...go out...sometime? We could...go to...the movies..maybe? If you want..it's totally up to you-"
Kaitlyn cuts me off with a giggle, blushing more and nodding a bit. "Yeah...I'd like that."
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and my face breaks out into the biggest grin ever.
I'm going on a date with Kaitlyn.
