{YOUR POV}
I woke up with a start as the loud sound of a blaring beeping entered my ears. The man that had saved us, opened the door, yelling at us to hold onto something. Harriet and Sonya looked at me with fear in their eyes as they grasped onto the net. I felt something tightened around my arm, and I looked down at Lucy.
I grasp her hand tightly with my left, before grabbing the net with my right. The wind howled, blowing my hair around wildly as I turned to look out the open door. The man was hanging out of it as I realized we were falling to the ground. He was pointing his gun and shooting at the people on the ground. And that's when I see it.
A gleam on the gun, the words imprinted into it with dark lettering to blend in. But I could see it.
"WICKED," I whispered, before looking at Lucy again.
I grit my teeth as I glare back at the man, who was oblivious to it. I turn back to my friends and yell to them, telling them what to do, as I begin to plan something insanely stupid.
"Hold onto me!"
They stare at me for a moment, before I turn away, and let go of the net. I could feel myself beginning to slide towards the door, my blood rushing through my body and clouding my hearing. But I ignored it.
Just as he had looked over his shoulder, looking at me, I lifted my feet.
And kicked him right in the chest, and out of the helicopter.
I felt my arm being tugged back, and I glance over my shoulder. Lucy and Harriet were both holding my arm as Sonya held onto Lucy. I smiled at them cheekily before reaching my right arm back towards the net.
I pulled myself up, and wince as they each slap me on my arm.
"WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT YOU RAGING SUIC-"
"THEY'RE WITH WICKED!" I yell over the wind and see their faces fall.
We then look at the head of the helicopter, and my eyes widen slightly. There were bullet holes in the windows, and blood on the seats and walls. And we were going to crash.
"STAND UP! WE HAVE TO JUMP!" I scream as I stumble to my feet, the blaring siren of the helicopter seems to grow louder with every passing second.
"WHAT?"
"WE HAVE TO JUMP OR ELSE WE'RE DEAD!" I send them a look as we get closer and closer to the ground.
I found feel my whole body tremor with fear, but I tried to hold it in. But I knew, from the looks in their eyes, they could see it.
All I could do was look at them because I knew.
This could be our last moments alive.
/THE GLADE\
/MINHO POV/
He felt like a pile of shucking bricks over my shoulder as I dragged him through the maze. Alby was unconscious after I had to knock him out from getting stung by a Greiver. They're not supposed to be out during the day!
I was exhausted, and I still had a while to go, but time was running out.
But we can't lose him.
We can't lose Alby right after Ben.
I won't let that happen.
Not if I can stop it.
(EMMY POV)
I hummed softly to myself as I swung my legs back and forth on top of the tower. I stared past the walls of the maze, absent-mindedly rocking side to side. But something felt off today.
I knew Minho was a fast runner, he was always back an hour early. But he had thirty minutes left, and he wasn't back yet. And Alby had come along with him too. So that was strange. But then again, Alby's not a runner.
So why did he go in the Maze?
"What are you doing up here Darling?"
I smile at Newt as his head pops up beside me.
"Watching the Glade from up here, are you?" He asks as he sits down next to me.
I nod my head and look down at the Glade, my eyes drifting over everyone and everything. That's when a thought stumbles in my mind, and I can't stop blurting it out.
"Do you regret it?"
I could feel his eyes on my head, a confused expression on his face.
"Regret what?"
I glance at his leg before turning to look at him.
"Do you regret saving me?"
His eyes widen for a fraction of a second before his eyebrows are pulled down in a frown.
"No! Emmy why would you think I would be?"
"Because if you hadn't saved me, you would still be a runner. And you would've been able to save Momma." I explain before he pulls me into his arms and hugs me.
"Listen to me, Emmy, and listen closely. My leg is not your fault, and it never was. I saved you because I care about you, and I would do it again in a heartbeat." He said, and I could feel my eyes slightly tearing up. "But even if I could still be a runner, I wouldn't have been able to save her. She's- She was a better runner than I ever was. And I had been there, I think I would've stayed in with her."
I wrapped my arms around him and nod my head slowly. "Thank you, for staying," I whisper.
\THE SCORCH/
|THIRD POV|
Smoke rose into the night sky from the wreckage of the helicopter. The crackling of the fire and the distant sound of cranks crying was all that could be heard for miles.
Along with the sound of an engine traveling further and further into the mountains.
/THE GLADE\
Minho was dragging Alby over his shoulder as he turned the corner towards the Glade. But every glader was yelling for him to let Alby go, and run. But he didn't.
His eyes scanned over the crowd as the doors began to close, and his eyes met Emmy's. And it was the determination in her eyes that made him pause. And then he realized.
"EMMY!"
The Glader's held Newt back as she ran into the maze, Thomas right behind her. And just before the doors closed, she looked over her shoulder at Newt. His eyes filled with tears, anguish, among other things. And she realized what she had done, what she didn't mean to do. She hadn't meant to run in, but she did.
And then the doors closed. Leaving both of them, stranded on opposite sides.
