--Charlie--When I finally pulled into the parking lot at the clubhouse about half an hour after Jax called me, I saw the prospect mopping out the garage. No one else was around and I knew, this time of night, Jax would be the only one left. I didn’t want to think about what happened there but I knew they didn’t kill Kyle. April was sent to the hospital as her son and his band began to play. Whatever the club did, it was ugly. As I got out of my car, a movement above me caught my attention and I looked up to see it was Jax. He had the binder containing his dad’s manuscript in his hand and was finishing the last of his cigarette. I could feel the tension rolling off him even from where I stood.
“You want some company, babe?” He tossed his cigarette on the ground next to him and shook his head.
“Not yet. I’ll be down later. You can go on to bed." The agitation in his voice said more than his words did. I knew he wanted me close to keep me safe but he also knew he would be terrible company after so much shit went down during the day.
“Okay. I love you,” I said. No matter what had happened, I always wanted him to know that. He cracked a small smile and he took a deep breath.
“I love you, too.”
Nothing else needed to be said so, I made my way inside. The closer I got to the door, the more I smelled something awful. It was like something had been burning and in the back of my mind, I knew what had been done to Kyle. All because he refused to get rid of that goddamn tattoo. I bit my lip to try to fight my sudden nausea and hoped the dorm didn’t smell like burning human flesh. I was grateful I’d had the forethought to get some candles while we were shopping for furniture the day before. Of course, I’d planned for those candles to get used the first night we were in the house but, things don’t always work out as we plan them.
When I was inside the dorm, though the smell was not strong, it was still faint. I lit one of the candles that Jax liked and gathered some things so I could shower. Before jumping under the warm spray, I turned on the radio to have something to distract myself from worrying about Jax and dwelling on any particular event that happened throughout the day. Lost in the music and the soothing feel of the water that rinsed my now clean hair, I didn’t hear the door to dorm open. It wasn’t until warm arms wrapped around me from behind that I realized Jax was there. He buried his face in the back of my neck and I felt him inhale deeply. All the tension left him as he exhaled and he held me tighter. My hands moved in soothing circles along the arms around my middle.
“Are you okay?” I whispered, loathe to disturb the peace. He kissed me where his head was buried but, I barely felt it because my hair was in the way.
“I am now.” His voice was also a whisper. He reached up and moved my hair, immediately placing his lips where my hair had been and put his arm back to pull me even closer. I sighed, enjoying the closeness, the feel of his bare skin against mine, and his kisses along my neck and shoulder. I turned in his hold, wrapping my arms around his neck and burying my fingers in his hair to pull his lips to mine. I kissed him only briefly because he had a faint hint of the odor that was in the garage. I pulled him underneath the spray of warm water and was fascinated by the way he closed his eyes and sighed. He released me to saturate his hair and the rest of him and I grabbed his shampoo bottle, squeezing a generous amount in the palm of my hand. I reached up and began to lather the shampoo through his hair. When I used my fingernails, he groaned and grabbed my hips gently. My core flooded with a wetness that had nothing to do with the shower and a brief glance down showed me how much he appreciated me washing his hair. He grabbed his dark blue loofah and poured body wash on it, washing himself from top to bottom quickly. The smell of his wash sharpened my own arousal and watching the water run over him as he rinsed off practically had me drooling. When he fixed his eyes on me, he flashed me the sexiest grin I’d ever seen on a man.
