Hannah and I are sitting on my chocolate brown wrap-around couch with a huge, black and white polka-dotted blanket enveloped around us. A large bowl of popcorn is set between the two of us and the movie Twilight plays on my large flat-screen TV.
It's funny how Hannah and I never got over that awkward stage in our teenage years where we were completely obsessed over the Stephanie Meyers' Twilight series. I guess you can say that once you're a geek, you're always a geek.
"To be honest, the date could've been better. He spent almost half of it ogling our waitress' ass every time she walked by." I say contemptuously.
"No way" she says in disbelief.
"No fucking way. I'd literally kill to have an ass like yours." Hannah says without a hint of playfulness in her tone. Hannah dips her hand in the bowl settled in between us, grabbing a small handful of the buttery popcorn.
I laugh at her bluntness. "Well, obviously my date didn't think so. He couldn't take his eyes off of her. It's like as soon as she walked out, he lost all meaning to this world. Don't get me wrong she was pretty, but he didn't have to make it known."
Hannah scoffs. "Whoever you went on that date with is full of shit." , she says keeping her attention on the movie playing in front of us. Hannah isn't particularly lying, I've kind of gathered that fact from the few hours I spent with Chris on our almost-failed date.
"It wasn't really all that bad. We had a nice conversation afterwards at least." I add, dipping my hand inside of the bowl for some more popcorn. "I had a great time separate from that small factor. I don't regret going on that date with him at all." I add, trying to defend Chris.
I stuff my mouth with popcorn after I get done talking. I don't regret it. If I never went on that date with Chris, I never would have gotten the chance to see Lukas again after those weeks.
I speak again after I swallow, "He's a really sweet guy if you got to know him, but I guess yesterday just wasn't his day." I can't just let one fault ruin my whole view of him. Everyone makes mistakes.
To be honest, my forgiveness towards Chris is partially due to the way he acted towards the end of the date. I liked the way if felt when he comforted me, it made me feel not so alone. He made me feel a little better about myself, and that's exactly what I need in my life.
"Well, at least you didn't catch him in the midst of flirting with her. I left someone alone for just a few seconds and went to the bathroom. When I got back, I caught him flirting with a middle-aged bartender." she stops and turns to me, "He said he only did it because he wanted a free bourbon."
I laugh even though I probably shouldn't. That has Travis' name written all over it.
Travis is Hannah's ex-boyfriend who has repeatedly and conspicuously cheated on her multiple times. He's gone from whoring around with his co-workers, to even trying to come onto me at one point in time.
I got out of the room as soon as possible and immediately called Hannah afterwards. After that day, I think she realized how bad he really was for her. I haven't heard or saw her talking to him ever since.
"Typical Travis" I take a few pieces of popcorn out of the bowl and toss them into my mouth.
"I'm glad I'm done with him." she says tiredly. She looks at me for a while and her face turns sour. "And I owe my breakup with him all to my irresistible, perfect best friend." she mumbles irritably.
Hannah says the words so quietly that I barely hear them leave her mouth. I guess she isn't over it just yet.
When she first found out that he tried to come onto me she was miserable. She ghosted me for weeks, and didn't answer any of my calls or texts. But I still waited for her, just like I knew she would for me.
