won't last long

I don't understand how I didn't recognize him.

Lukas Grey. The son of the richest man in the United States, Lincoln Grey.

What was he doing at Velvet?

He looks even better now than the night that we met. It's unusual. After a long night out with tons of alcohol, I'd expected my eyes to be playing tricks on me.

I guess they were, but not in the way that I expected.

He still has the same flawlessly tan skin, the same pink lips, those same pretty blue eyes. But there's other things I notice now.

Little things. Like the stubble that lines his chin and the sides of his face. His thick arched eyebrows that I can barely see because of his long hair.

The dimple that pops up on the left of his cheek when he smirks seeing the expression I'm making.

"I see you haven't forgotten me." His eyes hold a glimmer to them. A dare. Daring me to make the first move.

It isn't about who wants the other more. It's about who is willing to attack first. "I see you haven't forgotten me as well."

His smirk deepens, "Come on in sweetheart." Butterflies arise in me at the name. I ignore them.

He steps aside to let me through. As I walk in, I notice how large his office is. The office has a floating bar filled with endless treats on it.

Cookies. Chocolate. Skittles. Twizzlers. Reese's Cups.

Beside the bar is a door that says PA engraved in silver. That's where I want to be. In my own office, not surrounded by hundreds of other desks. I'm glad to leave those glass dividers behind.

Lukas is standing by the huge window in front of his desk. "You may sit."

I continue looking at the enormous window and sit. I notice how the window encompasses all the outer walls of the room. It's huge.

"There is no need for an interview. You have the highest qualifications out of all of the applicants. I have chosen you already."

Chosen. That's past tense. This decision was already made.

I don't know if I should smile. If my new job is a blessing or a curse.

I can think of nothing more before he starts up again. "I have something for you to sign off on before we begin." He finally sits down in his chair and pulls out a sheet of paper from a manila folder.

He slips the sheet in front of me. I read the first sentence:

You must accompany the CEO to any function or hotel they visit. But only under the circumstance that they wish for you to attend.

I sign on the line given for me, implicating that I agree.

The applicant will stay working as long as the CEO needs them. The applicant will be paid for all extra hours.

I'm okay with that. I sign.

If the applicant has no vehicle the CEO will escort them to and from work.

I look up from the paper, pointing at the sentence. "Why is this?"

He seems to know what I'm talking about beforehand. "Tardiness is unacceptable."

"But I can make it to work on time. Why is it required that I ride with you?"

Lukas shifts in his chair. "I would appreciate if you didn't ask me why." His gaze is arrogant. One saying that he is higher than me. That he has the control.
