~~~~Nick and Livi's POV~~~~
Black. Black is all they can see. No one could sleep because of the noises coming from outside. No one had anything. No materials to start a small fire. No one dared to go outside because of them. They were all anyone could think about.
Deprived. Deprived of nearly everything but each other, the little bit of shelter they had, and a little bit of food. Deprived of sleep especially.
Java and Ethan hadn't noticed how big of a horde they'd attracted. The zombies had given up on them twenty minutes ago, but they're still taking their time passing the group.
"How," Java says, "are we gonna get out of here?"
"By the sounds of things, not for a while," Livi answers.
Five minutes have passed. The moans and groans of the zombies are almost out of hearing range. Then it's quiet.
"Can we-," Nick starts.
"Don't even think about it," Ethan interrupts.
Ten minutes later, Ethan speaks up.
"Now."
Livi opens the hatch and looks out. She sees nothing.
"All clear," she says.
Everyone climbs the ladder one by one. Java climbs first, then Ethan, then Nick. They all smile at the sight of light.
"Remind me," Nick says, "to never follow you when you tell me to.", he says pointing to Ethan and Java with two fingers. One finger on Java, one finger on Ethan.
" We were just trying to save your life," Java says. "You should be thanking us."
"Well I'm NOT, okay?"
"Okay, but we'll see who'll make it to the end of the apocalypse, and let me give you a hint. NOT YOU!"
"Everyone just SHUT UP," Ethan says. "I'm sick of hearing you two fighting! We have a more serious problem on our hands."
"Ethan's right," Livi says.
"THANK you, Livi. I'm glad SOMEONE agrees."
No one talks for a while.
Finally, Java speaks up.
"We need to do something."
Ethan says,"That's what I've been trying to tell you guys for a while now but obviously nobody listened."
Nick sees something out of the corner of his eye. Grey with various other splotches of black. Steel. He turns his head and can barely make out a tiny building.
"There," he says. "Follow me."
Everybody follows Nick for about two minutes and they finally reach their destination. The building seems a lot bigger then what Nick saw a while ago. It's a two story building. Steel on both floors, but glass separating the two levels. By the looks of things, nobody is there.
"Nick and Livi, check the top part. Me and Java will check the bottom. Get everything there is," Ethan orders.
While Nick and Livi are trying to find things in the upper part, Ethan and Java are throwing all the junk on the ground. Although, Nick and Livi are inspecting each item very carefully. Seeing if they can make any of the item's parts into a weapon or something along that line.
"Do you think we'll be alright," Nick asks Livi.
"I think so."
"I hope so."
Nick hears something odd, strange like a clicking sound. He doesn't acknowledge it much at first, but quickly realizes he should've.
He sees something fly towards him. He feels it impale his abdomen. Nick screams out in pain. Livi screams in horror. Java and Ethan are up there in an instant and gasp when the see something even more horrific then the time they saw Frank get bit in the neck.
"Don't move," Ethan orders in a low voice. "Java, I'll be right back. You and Livi take care of him for a minute."
Java hasn't seen Nick's wound since he entered the upper part of the building. He was too afraid to look back. He turns his head and sees Nick thrashing around in a pool of blood while Livi tries to hold him still, but crying all at the same time.
Java gets down on his knees and tries to calm Nick down. He hopes Ethan will come back soon.
About a minute later Nick has calmed down and is taking deep breaths. They slow down about every five breaths, though.
Ethan finally enters the room again with a strip of gauze.
"This'll hurt a little," he says.
Ethan reaches for the arrow in Nick's abdomen and pulls on it. It finally comes out, but not before Java's dinner does first.
Nick screamed the whole time and still screams when it's out.
"Stay with me," Livi commands.
"I can't," Nick says.
He takes one final gasp of air and none others. Nick lies lifeless on the ground. Livi sobs as Java and Ethan stare at the body on the ground.
"Livi," Java says. "We went over this already on our apocalypse meetings. We told you people were gonna die."
"I know," Livi answers. "But so soon?" She continues to sob on Nick's body.
"Livi," Ethan says. "this is just the beginning."
"The BEGINNING?!" Livi answers.
"Yes," Java replies "We all wished for something better than this, though. You know we all did."
Nick's body twitches. His arm moves, then his legs. He moans a deep moan like a zombie. Suddenly, he moves over onto his stomach and grabs Livi's arm. Livi screams out in horror. She tries to kick Nick away, but she can't. Java frantically searches for an object of some sort. He ends up getting his hands on a metal pipe. He smashes the pipe on top of Nick's head trying to kill whatever he has become. Over and over. Blows to the head. Dead. Nick is most certainly dead.
Java huddles in a corner, scared of what he just saw and what he just did. He can barely hear Livi's screams and sobs. Ethan tries to comfort both of them at the same time. His words have almost no effect on either of them. All he can hear is Ethan saying,"Were you bit, Livi?"
Livi replies,"No." She continues to sob.
