Blood was prominent in the air as Cole, battered and bruised, crawled against the friction of the asphalt to safety.

The breaking, shifting and reassembly of bones was heard as Dean shifted back.

Cole turned around and leant up on his forearms to be met with the barrel of a gun.

"Give me one reason why I shouldn't put a bullet through your friggin' skull."

Cole glared up at the alpha in from of him.

"Four years ago," he mumbled around a broken jaw. "A house in Springfield, Colorado was gunned down and all but one died, Me. And because I was the only one there they thought I did it."

"What the hell does that have to do with me?" Dean asked.

Cole raised his finger at him. "You were there."

"No, I wasn't"

"Yes you were! I saw you!" Cole shouted. "I saw you," he lowered his voice. "And ever since that day, I wanted to find you. Now here comes along a little birdie who gave me a little tip. And look at my surprise when I found that not only did you make it out of that corrupt organization scorch free but you settled down, even found yourself a pretty little mate who you dragged down with you. Now look where we are." He stood up and faced the brunet blond. "People like you don't get to live with yourself scorch free. And if I have to go through everyone and everything you love? Then so be it. Starting with that cat."

Dean's jaw twitched as he cocked the gun. "Wrong answer."

Two loud bangs rang out and Michael, Luci, Donna and the two other officers drew their guns as they group turned the corner. They saw Cole fall to the ground, holding his shoulder and his leg.

"Winchester, drop it!" Michael shouted.

"Come on, dude," Luci piped up. "I wanna kill the dick too but not like this."

The gun cocked again and was aimed in the dead centre of Cole's forehead.

"Dean," that voice however made his insides spark. The little group parted as Castiel made his way towards his mate. "Dean, look at me and put the gun down."

The gun remained where it was. Cas walked between Cole and Dean, facing the latter. He grabbed his face and turned it towards him, letting the alpha's angry moss eyes meet his calm blue ones. Dean's eye instantly softened.

"I'm fine, you're fine," he took one of the alpha's free hands and placed it on his barely bloated stomach. "We're fine." He whispered. "And if you kill him, they'll have to take you away," he nodded over to the officers in their group. "worse since they found out you're a shifter and I can't let that happen, Dean. I can't do this alone, I can't have you not here, so please. I need you, We need you."

Cole looked at the interaction with bewilderment and confusion before realizing what the 'we' meant.
Oh God

Castiel looked back up at his mate to see him blinking away tears and naturally he wiped them away with the pad of his thumb.

"I'm sorry," Dean whispered. He bent down to bury his face in the omega's neck. "I'm so sorry."

Everyone around them relaxed as Donna went to cuff and drag Cole over to the police cruiser. Michael and the other officers assisting her.

"It's okay," Cas whispered, playing with the short hairs on the back of the alpha's head. He used his other hand to take the gun and hand it over to Sam, who snuck up to snatch it anyway. "It's okay, you were just protecting me and our little kitten."

Dean chuckled and rested his forehead on the other's. "Or pup."

"Maybe, we'll just have to wait a couple years, won't we?" The brunet grinned back.

A cough interrupted their moment. They both turned around to see Michael standing there.

"Anderson wants to talk to you. Both of you."
