281 A.C.
Harrenhal

The Kingsroad was not as elegant as it sounds, and it didn't exactly ease the journey being in a carriage. Large rocks and wooden wheels do not match well.

Leia was sat in the Hall of a Hundred Hearths next to Rhaegar, with Aecerys on her lap, and Rhayria on his. The hall was filled with withered drunkards. All shouting and being obnoxious.

"Should I take the children to bed, your Grace?" A servant, named Pia, asked.

"Yes, thank you." Rhaegar replied politely.  Leia gave the girl a brief smile, as she had seen her eyes on Rhaegar for a prolonged period of time.

Pia took Rhayria by the hand, and picked up Aecerys, where she led them out of the hall.

Leia's eyes turned to the King, as his voice bellowed out among the masses. "Jaime Lannister! Step forward." Leia's breathing became rapid, as she knew what Aerys was about to do.

"Kneel." Jaime did as he told, and kneeled before him. "Hightower." The Lord Commander of the Kingsguard stood up from his seat and came to the front of the hall. "Admit this boy into the Kingsguard."

The people in the hall began to whisper. "He's a child!", "He's a great swordsman!", "He will be the youngest!".

"SILENCE!" Aerys shouted, and once again the hall fell silent.

Ser Gerold Hightower stood in front of Jaime. "Do you, Ser Jaime Lannister, promise to protect the king from harm or threat."

"I do."

"Do you promise to provide the same protection to royals, lovers, mistresses and bastards. To follow orders from the king, other royals, the Hand and the Small Council. To serve the king's pleasure."

"I do."

"Do you promise to the king's secrets.  To protect the king's name and honour. And to maintain chastity."

"I do."

"I, Ser Gerold Hightower, hereby proclaim Ser Jaime Lannister as a noble knight of the Kingsguard."

Jaime arose from the floor, as Gerold gave him a nod.  Cheers were heard across the hall, as he took his position next to the King.

Leia gave Jaime a small smile, and mouthed "congratulations".  Even though she was only a small distance away — due to the fact Rhaegar had to sit next to his father — the hall was extremely loud.

Leia had noticed Pia re-enter the room, and was now gazing at Jaime.  She seemed rather impressed.  Leia rolled her eyes at her promiscuous ways.

Rhaegar squeezed Leia's hand and she looked at him.  He nodded towards his father.  Aerys had a wide smile, showcasing all his garish yellow teeth, and seemed to have thought the crowd was cheering for him.

"Jaime, come here." Aerys called.  The young knight came forward. "You wish to compete in the tourney tomorrow, yes?"

"Yes, your Grace." Jaime said with a smile.

"Well, I would wish you luck... but, you will not be competing." Jaime's face dropped. "You will return to King's Landing, to guard my wife and son." Aerys commanded.

Leia felt Rhaegar tense up at the way Aerys called Viserys his "son", yet Rhaegar was a mere "heir".

Everyone near could see Jaime already struggling with his first order, as he held his tongue. "When am I to leave, your Grace?"

"Now." Everyone froze. "Go on, you will be leaving tonight." Jaime nodded and left the hall.
