The first thing the doctors told you when you woke up, was to not expect to be able to stand or walk again. There was yelling, gunfire. Pain. Your back was wet. Why? The second thing doctors told you when you woke up was, that you were lucky to be alive. "When the bullet entered your back, it severed a piece of your spinal cord, you'll be paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of your life." Your Grandmother and your mother cling to each other sobbing when they heard the news. You however remained stoic, there was no emotion to be found anywhere on your face. It was your mother who cupped your face in her hands, giving you a shaky smile. A smile you did not return.
"Y/n! Stay with me now! Keep your eyes on me Eh?" His eyes were a blur, you were bleeding. Your back felt hot. Pain. Something was wrong. Something went wrong. "T-Tommy...I can...I can't feel my legs...Tommy..." tears blurred your vision. They were still there weren't they? Your legs? Why couldn't you feel your legs? The sun had woke you up this time. It was your mother who had opened your curtains, the clouds had parted only slightly, allowing a small ray of sunshine through. "Good morning Y/n.." your mother tried to smile. She always did. Every morning, she had a smile plastered onto her face, just for you. You couldn't bring yourself to smile. You haven't smiled since the accident.
It had been a few weeks since you had gotten shot, and not one of the Shelby's had come to visit you. Not like you cared, it was their fault you were now paralyzed from the waist down. You would always hear your mother complaining about them, crying to your grandmother about how it was all their fault and that they didn't even have the decency to visit and at least ask how you were. You were cooped up in your room, sitting in your wheelchair that the hospice provided for you, staring out the window lifelessly, wondering if you should turn in the completed resignation papers that were sitting on your nightstand, waiting to be turned in.
Polly had called for a family meeting that day, face set in a scowl as she took in her nephews, son, and the wives. "Has anyone bothered to check on Y/n in the past few weeks?" Polly asked, glaring at John who raised his arm about to speak, "Since she got out of the hospital?" She quickly snapped, watching as John shut his mouth and put his arm down. " I went down there a few weeks ago, the day she was let out of the hospital. She was let out in a bloody wheelchair, her mother said she's now paralyzed from the waist down, she can't feel a thing." Everyone's reactions varied. The women held back gasps and looked horrified, the men's eyes widened and looked at their Aunt in surprise. Everyone had a reaction, except for Tommy. Tommy just stared at his Aunt as if he already knew, and didn't really care. "What do you want us to do Pol?" He asked, placing a cigarette between his lips.
"I want the four of you to go down to 'er 'ouse and apologize. I want you to cover their medical bills and any other expenses they 'ave. She got shot because of you Thomas, a business deal gone wrong. I want you lot to go down there today, right now." Polly answered, keeping her glare on him letting him know she was serious. Thomas slowly nodded, taking a moment to light his cigarette before he motioned towards his brothers. "Shall we go then lads?" Linda glanced up at her husband, hand placed on her baby bump. "Poor girl. How will she ever find a husband now?" She voiced, causing Polly to turn her glare on her. "Keep your words to yourself." Linda quickly shut her mouth but not before recuperating Polly with a glare in return. Arthur, Tommy, John, and Finn all made their way out, shrugging on their coats as they did.
