Finn had called for a family meeting. This was unusual. Normally, it was Tommy making all of the demands for these meetings, and on occasion, it was Arthur. The whole family happened to be busy so he had no choice but to phone them and tell them to come home for an emergency meeting. You were sitting down beside him, fiddling with your skirt nervously. His big hand cradled yours delicately, his thumb rubbing the back of your palm in slow, calming movements. He brought your hand up to his lips, kissing your knuckles gently. "Everything will be just fine. Hold your head up, and don't take any shit they say to 'eart." He told you in a murmur, listening out for his family's footsteps. You were seated at the very table you were judged at before, your leg bouncing shakily with anxiety. It didn't take long before the tell-tell signs of people entering were heard. Your heart was pounding in your chest. You recalled Finn's words to you and clenched your jaw, holding your chin up high, eyes lazily focusing on the wall in front of you. You could hear Polly's voice go quiet as she entered, obviously spotting you and not being happy about it. "Finn? What's the meaning of this? I thought this was meant to be a family meeting." She said harshly, pulling out one of the chairs opposite of you. Finn then placed his hands upon your shoulders, squeezing them gently.

"It is." You could feel Tommy's eyes on you, and boy, could you feel the anger in them. He leaned lazily against the very wall you were staring at, an intentional move no doubt, and looked you right in the eyes. Ada had no problem greeting you warmly, both her and Esme giving you reassuring squeezes on your arms in greetings. Linda gave a slight eye roll upon seeing you. "You've interrupted me time with me 'usband to talk to your lady friend again?" She huffed, settling down in the chair beside Polly. Linda eyed you as Arthur cleared his throat, giving you a polite nod in greeting. Arthur had no problem with you, neither did John. The two men thought you were delightful, a very nice girl who would be good to help Finn slow down some, and hopefully mature some. Michael smiled at you before settling onto the counter, ignoring Polly's hiss to get down. The only one missing was Grace. It appeared that after Finn's outburst a few days ago, Tommy decided it would be best for her to stay at home with Charles, knowing that Finn was undoubtedly going to bring up her past.  After everyone was now settled, Finn cleared his throat. "As everyone knows, I've called this family meeting," he began, getting cut off by Polly who scoffed. "We know that Finn, though if this was a family meeting she wouldn't be here." She hissed out, glaring at you.

Finn sent a harsh look towards his aunt. "Pol!" He snapped, squeezing your shoulders. "She's my fuckin' girlfriend and future fuckin' wife! As far as I'm bloody concerned, she is my family." The Shelby family was stunned to silence. Finn had never stood up to his Aunt or any of his family like that before. Finn's glare was harsh, his bright blue eyes now a deep navy with rolling storms of anger. He never took his hands off of your shoulders, not wanting to separate from you. "Now, yes, I've dragged you lot away from your alone time to talk about something serious. I love this girl. I do. And I won' stand there and listen to you bunch of fuckers insult her as ya did at dinner." He said, further surprising his family. "Finn Shelby!" Polly snapped, sending a glare towards her nephew. "You will not speak to your family like that!" "Or what!" He snapped back, his glare intensifying.

"I'm fucking family so ya won't cut me. You won't threaten to disown me because once a Shelby always a Shelby right Tommy? It's the same shit you spouted to us when you married the woman who almost got you killed! You speak about how we must treat Grace like family, ya even got on to us about not creating a scene at her wedding and then proceeded to do business and even had me fight a fucking Calvery bastard, when you specifically told us no fucking fighting." Finn turned his glare towards his second oldest brother, the two gazes being met with an equal level of frostiness that could only be performed by proper Shelby men. Tommy held out his index finger and pointed it towards his youngest brother. "Don't you dare bring my fucking wife into this."

"Why not!? She's the reason you don't trust Y/n! Had you never even met Grace I'm sure that fuckin dinner would have gone much differently!" During his outburst, you delicately raised your hand and placed it onto his that was resting on your shoulder, running your thumb over the back of his hand gently, eyes still focused on the table. "We can't fucking trust outsiders Finn. Grace, she's different-" "-How in the fuck is that fucking spy any different than Y/n! Grace was also an outsider, an outsider working for your fucking enemy and nearly got you and Arthur killed! Y/n, Y/n is different! Yes, she's an outsider too, but her family is struggling financially and she works at a fucking bakery. Her father works with horses, something you've always wanted to do before the fucking war, and her mother works as a nurse in the hospital! If anything, Y/n is much more a Shelby woman than Grace ever will be!"

The whole room went silent. Tommy did not look impressed with Finn. His frosty glare flickered between you and Finn, hardening whenever his eyes landed on you. Polly stayed silent. On one hand, she could see where Finn was coming from. You did seem like a nice girl, struggling financially as Finn had stated, but you were still very nice during the dinner. And she agreed with Finn about Grace. During her wedding, Polly had even told her she would not welcome Grace into the family, that she had not forgotten what Grace had done, even though Tommy did. Her eyes flickered up to you. They softened when she caught the small act of PDA you two were sharing, meant to keep the both of you at least semi calm.

Tommy on the other hand was fuming. How dare his brother say those things? How dare he even think he could compare Grace to you? Sure, Tommy had not forgotten what she had done, hence his reluctance to welcome you into the family with open arms, but in his business, in this dangerous line of work, he had to be wary of everyone. Despite the lack of emotion shown on his face, his eyes held it all. Finn may have gone too far with his words but he wasn't going to back down. "And you know what's funny?" Finn continued, still looking Tomy right in the eye. "You practically sold John to the Lee family, all under the guise of his children needing a mother, and yet, you accepted Esme into the family anyway, only going against her whenever she threatened to take John away from this lifestyle, you approved Arthur marrying a fuckin' Christian girl, and having a Christian wedding, accepting Linda into the family even though she's...well...Linda. But what's worse is, after meeting Grace, you have completely lost yourself to your reputation and how others perceive you, that you have forgotten most if not all of your Romani Gypsy roots. You've forgotten where you come from. You've forgotten mum." Finn said heavily. He could see Tommy's eyes widen ever so slightly before they hardened again.

The whole room seemed to freeze again. John and Arthur glanced at one another, letting the words their youngest brother had said sink in. They knew Finn had spit nothing but the truth. You had stayed quiet, swallowing harshly as the silence continued. "I will not tolerate any of you saying shit about my girlfriend. So if you have any problems with me being with her, I suggest you lot stay quiet anyways. My life is mine, worry about your own." He snapped, looking Tommy right in his eyes as he did. He was tired of being treated like the baby in the family. He wanted to show that he was older now. And he was old enough to date someone that he loved, no matter what his family said. He would continue to prove to himself, to you, and to his family that he was a man. "Now, if you excuse us...we have a fucking date. And I mean it when I say I don't want to hear anyone badmouthing her. I love her," He looked down at you, a smile curling on his lips, "and I plan on marrying her one day." Your heart soared at his words. A smile crossed your lips as you looked up at him.

You knew that this talk wouldn't immediately change anything, but so far, he managed to get Polly into liking you, but you both knew that Tommy would be salty about Finn's words for a long time. But for now, you were content with what transpired today. Finn had stood up for you. Finn had stood up to his family for you. He talked back to his brother for you. Finn had proved that he was a man. Not only to you but to his family. You hoped that his family would now treat him as an adult instead of a child. Finn grabbed your hand before dragging you out of the house, not casting a backward glance at his still stunned family to take you on a date.
