Chapter 2
Heather's Pov
Heather Johnson , I wrote the name at the top of my paper putting a heart at the end of my name, I was sitting in my 11th grade homeroom class playing with my pencil and paper, I was drawing hearts and writing John's name in the middle of them.
I had been dating him since last year when I was in the 10 th grade, but now that we were Juniors he was acting differently.
He had changed alot since finally getting his own car, he was driving everywhere now and getting into trouble, hanging out with the wrong crowd in all the wrong places.
Pausing in my artwork, I sighed softly to myself as I tried to push everything out of my mind and finish last night's Pre-Calculus homework it was always the very last thing I ever did for homework was the math homework, probably because more than likely I hated the stuff.
Flipping to a clean page in my notebook I started to flip open the Pre-Cal textbook to find the assigned homework to finish it.
My mind was working out the math equations and it was slowly wandering over to other things definitely away with thoughts of John.
I wanted to make it official but he had been pulling away from me and between cheerleading and my school work life at home was not easy at all.
Everyday after school I tried to do as much of my homework as I could and also hang out with Anabella, we typically got milkshakes at one of our favorite places to eat. This place made the thickest milkshakes ever known and they were absolutely amazing. Sometimes Joey came along with us to get a milkshake, other times he had Drama practice or band rehearsals, it was usually the rehearsals he had so he usually only grabbed a milkshake to go and talked to Anabella for a few minutes.
I had to admit I was somewhat curious about this whole band deal of my sister friend's best friend. It wasn't like Joey actually talked about his band much, it was more like rehearsals or recording or concerts. The only thing that I knew was that the band's name was New Kids On The Block. I managed to make it through the seven math questions that had been the assigned homework, whether they were correct was another question being that I was distracted. Once the homework was finished which I was sure was correct, I decided to write a note to Anabella to give her in the hallway they'd see each other between classes going from Gym to Library to Chapel.
Anabella's Pov
I was sitting in homeroom trying to figure out how to get my parents to agree to let me go on the Winter Break trip with school. I had always been very responsible and I just knew that they'd let me go if Heather was going, I actually never asked her if she was but if she was going there was my answer.
"Banana?" Joey repeated from behind me.
I turned to face him," It's Ana, but I think I just found our answer!" I said with a small smile.
He immediately stopped playing around as his blue eyes looked into mine seriously, I could tell already he was impatient and had to know what the answer was to our trouble.
I bit my bottom lip softly as I was trying to find the best way to answer him our teacher Miss Smith was busy at the front of the room. She took role by head count usually, the rest of homeroom was for us to do our homework in before first period, mine was finished anyway.
"If Heather goes than my parents are going to let me go for sure," I whispered softly to Joey.
"Brilliant! Why didn't I think of that!" he said excited now," Your parents adore her because they say she's a good influence on you!"
"Shhhh neither of YOU are good influences Joseph," I reminded him trying not to laugh.
"Oh WOW I'm hurt now," he said with a frown on his face.
I shook my head and turned back around to face forwards, last year he had snuck out to make out with whatever bimbo he had been trying to date or was dating and I GOT in trouble for it. He hadn't shown up for our lab and well he ended up with detention after school because of it. So therefore the fact that I would do anything for Joey Joe simply proved how much he meant to me. This was the lecture I heard almost daily from Heather that I was too nice and that I needed to stand up for myself more, that I didn't need to let everything be about Joey.
I used my favorite pen to draw in the margin area of my notebooks, I drew stars and flowers, I was never brave enough to put the truth in the margin. My destiny was Joey, I was the girl who never dated anyone, who never went to a school dance here at Catholic Memorial Highschool unless she went and sat on the sidelines but it was always without a date.
"Hey Ana," he said softly from behind me.
"Mhmm?" I asked quietly.
"Draw something for me please," he said.
My pen instantly stopped moving in the margins and I turned back around to face my wide open ocean blue eyes at his blue eyes staring back at me, "Why ? what am I even drawing for you?" I finally asked a little surprised still. This would be like me asking him to write a song for me, this was a big deal. I mean I was no fancy artist at all but I was definitely good at it enough anyway to warrant a do it for me please.
"Anything that you want to draw for me," he said simply," I want to keep it in the cover of my notebook."
"Okay I'll try to work on it like during lunch while eating or something, because I have that Algebra test today," I reminded.
"WE have an algebra test! Couldn't you have told me this last night?" he asked suddenly panicking. Math was the bane of our existence, Joey was great at it though so he exaggerated a little bit, I think it just bored him. Myself however I sucked at it, and even Heather hated it but managed to get through it.
"Joey you know I told you when you called last night that I was doing homework and I had to study, what did you think I was studying for?" I asked looking at him confused. He called me every night and we talked on the phone, it was the only mutual ground of communication we shared unless we were face to face. The only person I ever passed notes to was Heather, but than she was an avid note writer, she wrote notes to John and to the other girls on the squad she actually liked, which was few and far between. Even when I had Joey on the phone going on about whatever was going on, which at first it had been the guys in the band, they were older than him. He had struggled in all honesty in fitting in with them, but he had kept trying and now they were finally getting somewhere. They were getting time to record soon, they had been working with the few songs they had off their first self titled album, but it hadn't done as well as their manager, producer and they themselves had wanted.
"Not algebra! I thought that was on Friday, I thought I had two more days to study for it!" he said.
"Nope Mr. Jackson is giving it today," I replied softly.
"Oh I'm screwed!" he groaned softly," You could have helped me study!"
"You were supposed to help ME!" I said emphatically but kept the volume of my voice low. Joey and I never truly yelled at each other unless we were mad at each other, it was definitely not your normal friendship.
"Sorry," he said quietly.
Infact I was starting to wonder exactly why he was so almost different in his behavior lately. He was more attentive since Summer and tried to keep me more and more informed about his life, band stuff, theater stuff. Which he usually only did the fall production at school since most of his time was dedicated to the band.

Someone didn't study for their test. Uh-Oh.
