It was now New Years Eve. And this year Betty and Jughead decided to host at their apartment. The few days between this and Christmas had been, once again, full of arguing for them.
"Jug I do not need to go to a therapist! I'm fine they'll go by themselves!" She shouted. "No Betty! You have PTSD you need to see someone!"
That was their main argument but as the tension grew they argued about little things as well. Currently, they were arguing over decorations and food for the party.
"No the balloons are going here, the food on the breakfast bar!" Betty shouted as she put the balloons everywhere. Jughead snatched them out of her hand
before placing them in the opposite place to where she said. She groaned. "Okay, fine! Don't listen to me then!"Betty walked over to the streamers that were going to hang over the door and attempted to put them up. She was too short to reach. Jughead sighed before going over and taking them out of her hand. "Let me do it"
"I can do it myself thank you very much!" Jughead made a 'pfft' sound. "What was that 'pfft' for Mr Jones?" she mimicked him, cocking her brow.
"Nothinggg" he said putting up the streamers, "just your short that's all"
"Am not!" she hissed back, "I'm 5'6!" he walked towards the kitchen, starting to place out the food, she followed. "exactly I'm 6'0, babe"
"Your just tall" she mumbled, not loud enough for him to hear. "Go and get dressed, people will be here soon" Jughead said. She huffed, stomping out of the room like a three year old.
After they were both dressed and everything was set up their first guests started to arrive. First was Veronica and Archie. "Happy New Year!" Archie said as he came through the door. "Archie it's New Years Eve" Betty chuckled, taking the bottle of wine they had brought with them.
Archie stood their for a minute before saying, "Happy New Years Eve!" He put his arm around Jughead shoulder. "Are drunk already?"
"No he's not, he's just hyper" Veronica answered, looking at her boyfriend. Archie smiled, widely before there was another knock on the door.
After around half an hour everyone was there, mingling and drinking. Betty and Jughead were across the room from each other. Everyone could feel the tension between them. But they all tried to ignore it. Until the New Years countdown.
Everyone was counting down the minutes, stood next to their significant others and Reggie and Sweet Pea stood with each other shouting. Everyone was with someone apart from Betty and Jug. Still stood across the room.
"Three, two, one. Happy New Year!" Everyone shouted kissing their partners. Jug and Betty looked
at each other awkwardly, before she slipped away into the kitchen.Betty stumbled back in with another drink in her hand, "who wants to do some singinggg!" She shouted.
"I'll come sing with ya, B" Veronica said, swinging an arm round the blondes shoulders. "I have an idea" Veronica whispered in Betty's ear. They put on a song, putting the volume up all the way.
"This was never the way I planned, not my intention" Betty sang.
"I got so brave, drink in hand, lost my discretion" Veronica sang, looking at her friend.
"It's not what I'm used to, just wanna try you on" Betty sang, but it was more like shouting at this point.
"I'm curious for you, caught my attention" they sang together.
"I kissed a girl and I liked it, the taste of her cherry chapstick"
"I kissed a girl just to try it, I hope my boyfriend don't mind it" they both looked over at Archie and Jughead who were stood watching them. They raised their eyebrows in confusion.
"It felt so wrong, it felt so right, don't mean I'm in love tonight,
I kissed a girl and I liked it, I liked it"Veronica cupped Betty's face, pulling her in. "Don't freak out, just trust me." She pulled the blonde into a kiss which Betty returned with the same amount of pressure.
It only lasted a few seconds but it got quite a reaction from their friends around them, especially Archie and Jughead.
Jughead shifted on his feet, something he did often when he was uncomfortable. Betty noticed this as she pulled away. He looked in the other direction, completely ignoring her.
Betty continued singing, "I kissed a girl and I liked it, the taste of her cherry chapstick!"
"I kissed a girl just to try it, I hope my boyfriend don't mind it" She felt Jughead's eyes on her as Veronica looked over at Archie again.
"It felt so wrong, it felt so right, don't mean I'm in love tonight,
I kissed a girl and I liked it,
I liked it"🤍🤍
A few more songs went by and the girls managed to rope in Cheryl, Reggie, Kevin and Toni. They were all screaming the lyrics at this point, making it impossible for the others to hold a conversation.
By 1:54 am everyone was tired, apart from Betty who had been drinking profusely for the whole party. She stumbled as she said goodbye to her singing buddies.
"Byeee byeeee, I loveeee youuu" she slurred to Veronica as she walked out. "Byeeee Beeeeeeee" she replied, Archie dragging her out the door.
Betty shut the door, leaning against it as she laughed. Jughead cleared up, visibly angry. Betty looked at him confused, "what's wrong with you, Forsythe" her speech still slurred.
He looked over at her in disgust, "your the one who's been drinking all night." He angrily threw some rubbish into a bin bag. "So your not upset about the kiss?"
She stumbled over to the breakfast bar, he was in the kitchen. "Oh yeah, I'm mad about that too but I'm worried about you, Betty! You've been having nightmares for weeks, and don't pretend I can't hear you in the bathroom at night! And now the drinking? Betty what's going on?"
"Nothing! I'm fine, Jughead! I can take care of myself! I don't need you babysitting me all the time!"
"I love you, Betty! We're getting married it's my job to care for and look after you!" He quietened down a bit, not wanting to shout anymore.
She sniffled, starting to cry. "I'm sleeping in the guest room, I can't deal with this anymore!" Jughead could tell she was about to breakdown and left her be.
That night they slept without each other. Her in the guest room, him in their room. She cried basically all night. In between hunching over the toilet, throwing up whatever junk she ate at the party.
Betty leaned backwards onto the bath in the guest room bathroom, using a wet cloth to clean her mouth. Dark thoughts ran through her head, ones she didn't particularly like or want to hear. Even some from her darker self, the side of her she was trying to repress.
She ended up falling asleep on the bathroom floor, wrapped up in her fluffy dressing gown.
