Tough Luck ( Raphael X Reader )

Morning

<~ Your POV ~>

Ugh. Another day of school. My mom wasn't home, as usual. I fixed my (h/c) hair and put on my favorite tee, which had the words " Stargazer" written in galaxy print. It was the name of my favorite band.* I put on jeans, socks, and a jacket, as well as my favorite pair of boots.

Then, I grabbed my favorite type of granola bar, and took a bite. School started at 8:00am. But, today I had woken up early, for it was only 6:30.

I decided to take time to make myself look decent. I put on concealer, foundation blush, eyeliner, and mascara. A bit of lipgloss finished the job. Of course, I knew I liked fine without it, but why not?

My phone beeped. It was a text from my best friend, April.

" Hey. U up?" It said.

" Yeah." I replied.

" Great. Meet me @ the park in 10. I need 2 talk 2 u."

" Okay! :3 "

" c: "

I pocketed my phone, changed out my boots for skates, put all my school stuff in a bag, and raced to the park to meet April.

«~ Time Skip ~»

" Hey!" I greeted my best friend.

" Hey." She responded. I smiled.

" What was it you wanted to talk about?" I asked her.

" I wanted to tell you... I'm going to be out of town this weekend... So... I can't hang out." April said. I frowned. I could tell there was a lie behind her eyes.

" But we were supposed to work on our science project together!" I stuck out my bottom lip in a pout. I grabbed her hand pleadingly. She cringed. There was a large bruise there. I looked closer, and saw bruised hidden on her neck, face, and a few bandaids here and there.

" Hey, don't worry. I'll be there next time." April said. This was the third week that she hadn't come over.

" Pleeeeeeeeeaseeeeee?" I begged. I really needed her for the next part of the assignment.

April ruffled my hair. I flinched away from her touch. The last time somebody had done that, it was my father.

~ Flashback ~

" But Daaaaaaaad! You've already been shopping today! Let's play basketball!" I had said.
" Sorry sweetie. But daddy needs to go again."
" Why?"
He had ruffled my hair.
" Because, sweetie. Because."
He left, and never came back. Just, left our family, running away from his responsibilities as a parent.

~ End of Flashback ~

My mom got a good paying job as a scientist's assistant. She was always away. But, hey, I got time to myself.

" Okay." I said sadly. " I'll work on it... Without you..." I smiled weakly. April smiled.

" Hey, at least it's Friday." April said.

" Yeah. I guess." I answered. But I wasn't convinced April was going on a trip. I decided to follow her. She had been missing school a lot lately. And she kept talking about " Them." And " They." And " Us." When she was on the phone.

Was April in a gang?

I'd find out, after school of course.
