( wolf's bane; pt.ii )

IT seems that wherever Maddie goes, she can't escape the guilt for what happened to Harry. Maybe it's her punishment for being a part of this whole mess, a sign that she shouldn't have walked into the world of the supernatural so willingly. She knows that she didn't send that text, and without it he never would've gone to the school, but if she wasn't there in the first place. . .

Instead of being in his lacrosse gear, Harry wears a dark jacket ( hanging over his right shoulder ) over his blue t—shirt. This is the game that decides if they're going to state; Harry has been waiting for this game, and Maddie's ruined his chances. He has to watch his teammates play whilst he sits on the sidelines, only able to cheer them on.

Lillian has her hand against Connor's back, making sure he stays by her side and doesn't get lost in the small crowd. She'd typically have her husband's arm around her shoulder but Mark stayed at work, working on his cases he needs to get done.

If his son was playing, he'd most definitely be here, but with Harry out of commission until his shoulder heals, Mark doesn't feel as guilty for missing the game.

After spotting Scott calling her over, Maddie parts from her family with the excuse that she'll meet them at the seats. She approaches him with her arms crossed over her chest in an attempt to conserve heat.

They both exchange quick hellos before Maddie kickstarts the conversation. "Did you find it?"

"I found it," he answers, proceeding to sigh. "But there's nothing on it."

Maddie furrows her brows, stepping to the side to let a couple walk past them. "What do you mean?"

"There's nothing except for the drawing on the front," Scott says, his annoyance making itself clear in the tone of his voice. "So I don't know how it's supposed to help us find the alpha."

"Have you told Derek?"

Scott shakes his head. "I'm about to call Stiles."

At the mention of Stiles, Maddie's thumb begins to play with her ring, phone burning a hole in her back pocket. Whilst she was at her doctors appointment after school and Scott was trying to find the necklace by semi—stalking Allison, Stiles was blackmailing Danny with his scrubbed arrest record in order to trace the texts that got Allison and Harry to the school. Someone had to have sent it and they were going to figure it out. And he did, he found out who sent the texts. After swearing Maddie to secrecy —— which mainly meant, don't tell Scott —— he told her the texts were sent from Melissa's computer at the hospital.

That's when she understood why she was told not to tell Scott. There's no way that Melissa would ever do anything to hurt anyone, not only because of her Hippocratic Oath as a nurse, but because that's just the type of person she is. She's the woman who helped her when she first started therapy for her anxiety, helped ease her nerves. She's the woman who gave her those stupid children's colouring books whenever Maddie went to the hospital so she could have something to pass the time. How could that woman be a murderer or an accomplice to murder?
