LUNCH could not have come sooner, Maddie swore in Physics that she was liable to fall asleep if the teacher carried on talking about. . . well, whatever he was talking about, Maddie wasn't paying attention. It's the first day back, there can't be anything important that's taught on the first day, that would be the cruellest thing a teacher could do, which is why she's glad she doesn't have Chemistry until Wednesday, she could not handle Mr. Harris with less than five hours sleep.
Maddie had almost forgot that she promised Allison that she would hang out with her at lunch so running into her at her locker was the luckiest thing that could have happened. The guilt she would have felt when she remembered would have been huge and not even Allison assuring her that it was fine would have helped.
With the two walking towards the cafeteria and Maddie having had hours to set aside energy to waste on conversation and confidence, she starts asking about Allison's life with enough discretion so that she doesn't come off as pushy, where she was before she came here to Beacon, what she liked to do——mainly to find something in common and to use that to then piggy—back onto a conversation that could last for longer than just a repeat of questions.
Turns out that Allison is essentially a pro at archery which was something she was embarrassed about but something that Maddie wanted to know more about, except there wasn't really much else to know since she had given it up a few years ago. The girl set aside an offer to help teach her to which Maddie absently agreed to——as one does when you're offered something that interests you——and they sit down at one of the end tables in the cafeteria once they've bought their lunch.
Maddie plays around with the chips on her plate with her fork, her fist pressed to her cheek. She glances up to Allison, seeing the girl bite into her sandwich which has her stall her question so that she doesn't make Allison feel rushed and end up choking on her sandwich to answer quicker.
Whilst she waits, Maddie puts her fork down and opens her water, taking a small sip just as Allison finishes the piece in her mouth. "Hey—" Allison looks up with a soft smile, showing she's listening. "—you get to Biology alright?"
Allison nods, wiping her thumb at the corner of her mouth. "Yeah, it helped that I didn't mess up the directions you gave me."
"Directions do usually help people get to the right places," Maddie replies, leading the two to chuckle quietly.
The two put aside a few minutes to eat their food, leaving an empty space for any conversations to start. Maddie may not be ready to spill her deepest darkest secrets to the girl in front of her, but it doesn't mean that she isn't willing to see how a friendship with Allison would turn out. The girl is open and so far has been the one to start most of the conversations. It would essentially be——as Stiles eloquently puts it——an extrovert adopting an introvert. Allison may have seemed shy, but it was the obvious reason of an entire new environment. Once she got used to somewhat used to the school, she was fine.
Allison tucks some hair behind her ear, her hand continuing to go down her hair, pushing it behind her shoulder. She parts her lips to say something when someone interrupts her, slamming their hands down on the table. Maddie flinches, letting out a quiet, "Jesus!" before she looks to her side to see who had to ruin her bubble.
