"There's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be...
One year earlier...
"I swear I will raise a protest if the food is not going to be at least five star rating in this conference."
Few heads turn in our direction hearing Ayesha's blatant announcement, I duck my head covering my side face while tugging at her slender arm. She is still busy admiring her perfect acrylic nails as I turn our back from rest of the students. Oh god! even few seniors at the stalls stare skeptically at us, this girl has no filter and zero awareness while speaking out her mind.
"One day you are going to land us in serious consequences, Ayesha." I whisper yell at her.
"What, we live in democratic country, my parents pay taxes every year. I have all convenient rights to speak my mind."
I scrunch my face at her response shaking my head, giving up to put any sense in her airy head. She truly lives in her bubble, initially I use to envy her. Honestly there are so many reasons anyone could feel envious of her for one she is truly gifted with flawless features.
Her doe like brown eyes shimmer just like her vibrant nature, always dressing herself conservatively in proper hijab covering her straight auburn hair and wearing pastel color outfits.
Her family roots are from Kuwait though after her birth in this city. They have chosen to permanent reside in their beautiful apartment in one of the most priced areas of Mumbai. Absolutely nothing between us is similar not even taste for music still we are entangled in this 'sworn sisters' as she likes to label, since school days.
In one of our random discussion she admitted the reason to be with me is due to my simplicity and a rare kindness that often fools don't understand. It was according to her.
Initially, I tried my best to ignore her because I believed she was just playing around. Soon she'd join the herds of popular students at school. Though those groups still try to include her till date, but she is looped with me and I hope it remains forever. With time I realized her beauty is not only outside it reflects her inner self which is my reason for this friendship with this silly girl for years now.
"Mer, I swear if they don't start moving this damn line, I'd scream to bring those prestigious professors outside. For them to see how this campus find their ways to torture us innocent students."
I wound my arm around her shoulder giving her a stern look, knowing her threats are not empty, she'd definitely do it. To my relief the line moves forward she smirks at me as if it was due to her threats. I roll my eyes, we both softly chuckle. Conferences are common in "ARMS" University but this was an international Summit.
So almost all the students from science department were partaking in it. Not to forget the arrangements from food to entertainment programs in the evenings during three consecutive days was awaited talks since months. Getting participant certificates were another added bonus, what could any students ask for.
Perfect break from repetitive long hours of sitting in boredom of classroom.
More than hundred students were standing in respective ques under the tents arranged to get our ID pass for the three day conference. Some professors in charge were nearby inspecting the process, this conference was one of most prestigious occasion in the entire country.
An elite of esteemed professors from around the country even few international persona from a range of fields were giving their talks, so being a graduate student meant a huge chance for exploring more options to decide our future.
