"We have to dare to be ourselves, however frightening or strange that self may prove to be."
MEERA
"So gorgeous bride, Describe in three words your married life so far."
Ayesha has come to visit me today, it took lot of convincing from my side as she was skeptical. I ended her doubts in simple words saying, she is visiting my home. Surely it overwhelms every time whether being mamma, Bhai, now Ayesha as they see this place as some luxurious mansion.
And me as the elder daughter in law of the Rajvansh family.
But it was my home, the one created by my new family. Though I was now part of such an elite household, the fact doesn't change I was the same old simple Meera. So I asked them to view the fact as such.
After giving the full home tour, she got tired chose to relax on the couch, head supported on fist, and her legs crossed bouncing in anticipation for my response. I placed the tray with pretzels, some chips, and plum juice on the center table.
Offering a glass of juice, I deliberately take time to answer sipping from my own glass seating next to her. She nudges my shoulder impatiently, I switch the glass in other hand not to spill it on the cream colored rug.
'Oh, I sort of changed few things in our room to make it more aesthetic and lively.'
Initially, I thought Arjun might feel objected that I was making changes as it was his room to begin with but as usual he didn't give dam about anything. Giving me free will as long as for each added item, he gets kisses that I should initiate. Sometimes I think, my horny husband schedules extra time just to come up with such explicit ideas.
Anyways, coming back to Ayesha's question let's see...
"Beautiful, unexpected, challenging." I hum in approval, tasting the fruity juice.
"Challenging..." Ayesha trails off, her brows creased in confusion.
I turn in my place, folding my right leg with arm propped on the back of couch. She mimics my posture with a curious gaze, "Do you honestly think it's easy to handle this family or Arjun? Of course mom and dad are definitely a blessing for any daughter in law. Rest of my in-laws I behave like I'm walking around eggs shells in their presence. Imagine doing it everyday. I know it shouldn't bother me much but recently I'm also feeling overwhelmed with certain realizations."
She purses her lips already guessing my insecurities are going to raise their ugly side.
Ignoring her look, I force the words out, "I mean, look at mom and dad both are successful in their respective fields even for their age. Arjun is outshining his capabilities, there's no doubt he is going to be remarkable Advocate in near future. Touch wood. What about me though?"
I whisper the last part more to myself.
"Getting married was not in my plan-
Ayesha interrupts raising her brows, "You had a plan?"
'Okay, I didn't. She also knows it. Best friends bluntly point out the truth sometimes.'
Narrowing my eyes at her hidden smile, I continue, "The point is I don't regret at all but it feels like I'm lagging behind. I want to be something more than being daughter in law or someone's wife."
I drop my head on back of the couch, "Am I making sense, here?"
These thoughts have been going on in my mind recently, I couldn't find it how to discuss them with anyone. So it was sort of relief to talk with Ayesha. It was extremely hard to dodge the topic whenever Arjun would sharply notice from my demeanor.
