Jade's POV
- I know I'm supposed to be here because of my parents death, but there's this person I met recently and they ran away from me yesterday, I don't know how to help them and I'm not sure what I did wrong.
- Jade, you know this therapy is to help with your problems. I can't listen to your idea of another person's thoughts, they're not my client and you know the rules.
My parents weren't the problem anymore, it was Raven. They freaked out because of me and I never meant to hurt them.
- Antonio I need answers.
I talked with him about Raven's past, their behaviours and the things they said yesterday.
- "It's your fault" they said that to themselves? You know what Jade, I think your friend isn't quite over their dad's death. It happens a lot when someone is grieving, to act like you're over it. But the trauma can come back. They might have experienced a post traumatic experience when they thought you left. See, they're probably scared of someone losing trust in them.
After my session, I took my bike and when to Raven's house. Their mom told me they left early on their bike. She thought it was just a quick stop at the coffee shop, but it had been a few hours already. But I knew exactly where they were.
Raven's POV
Why did I act this way with Jade? I never meant to screamed at her but I couldn't control myself. I know that hiding in the forest won't help it, she'll find me. But I can't face her if she's gonna make me feel bad.
- Raven...
- Jade why are you here?
- I want to help you Raven.
I had to be strong right now, but I just cried.
- I'm sorry, you shouldn't have seen that. You don't deserve to be screamed at. I just thought you left and I got attached to you and I regretted it. I'm not usually like that, but it happened and I can't just stop talking to you because of a stupid reaction I had.
Jade's POV
I had to tell them. But they'd never forgive me for talking about them to my therapist. I was lucky enough that they told me that much about their past, it was a high risk, but it could help them.
- Raven, I don't think you're over your dad's death. It may seem like 4 years is plenty of time to get over it but it'll always be a part of you, you can't push these emotions away. I know you miss him and maybe you're scared to trust people again but you need to help yourself through this process. Grief isn't easy but there's ways to get past it.
- Jade you have no idea what you're talking about. I know myself, I'm over my dad. This is so stupid.
They took their bag and left. I didn't follow them, it would just make things worse. I thought getting to know her would be good for me, but we're both just hurting each other.
It was now 9pm, I sat on my bed, looked around my room and got up to take a canvas from the wardrobe. I asked Dante to hand me some paint and let my creativity do the work.
Raven's POV
She was right. I tried to deny it but she just knows it.
- Mom, are you over dad's death?
- Honey, did something happen?
- I screamed at Jade the other day and she told me it might be because I'm still not over losing dad. Mom I was the one who found him, and it never did anything to me. I think it's just coming to me 4 years later.
I sat on my mom's bed and she told me that Jade was brave to tell me this, but it meant that she cared about me. I didn't think much of it and I went to bed.
Minutes later, my eyes were still wide open and my mind wouldn't shut off. I got up, but on a pair on converse and left the house.
Jade's POV
It was getting late, I put all of the painting stuff on my desk and got in bed. I closed the light and two minutes later, a reflection passed through my window.
- Raven? What are you doing it's nearly 11pm!
- Just hear me out okay?
First, they run away from me twice, and now they think they can just run after me? It was late, I had no energy for convincing them to leave.
- Jade what you told me, it was right. I just can't accept the fact that you know me better than I know myself. We've known each other for such a short time, I don't want to ruin it all because of things from my past. Just forgive me and we can start all over.
I didn't answer. I took their arm and brought them outside. I always wanted to run in the field behind my house, but something held me back. We talked for hours and told each other secrets, so we wouldn't feel bad about knowing more or less about the other.
The time flew so fast, I started to feel a cold breeze. I turned around with Raven and we laughed so much we fell on the ground.
- Jade, do you have any idea where we are right now?
- Truth is, I totally forgot how we got here. Let's just walk this way, we might see something.
We didn't stop walking but it felt like we were coming back to the same spot. I got really tired and suggested that we take a nap. I put some hay branches on the ground and we laid on it. I had their arm around my waist, we stayed close to not get too cold.
