Iris
What would you do if you were forced to marry someone you've never even met, never even been in the presence of. Well, I don't know either. The best part is I have 1 week until it happens.
My family are the "kind" ones of the land, we gave to the less fortunate, we gathered civilians in the castle gates so often they became regulars. Most of my family was even vegetarian. We all generally cared for others and so did I. I left an exception for Prince Sares. Whom I didn't even know his name, I guess no one knew mine either. I was only ever addressed by the princess. Their kingdom is the not-so-kind ones of the same land. They keep their doors locked and always have for centuries. My father had only recently conversed with them after this prophecy had been put into the works. I know because our kingdom is in eye-view of theirs, above the second top. An empty field full of tall sunflowers and grass was the only thing in between us. How badly I wanted to run through, but that would be "improper" for a princess.
It was said there wasn't even any form of life in their castle, as if they had stopped reproducing ages ago. But I knew that wasn't true, every once in a while a small door on the last floor of their castle would open. A brunette boy would walk out with a bow and arrows and sneak off. I lost where he went after that as my window only looked so far. Yet I swear I would see him when training.
I trained in fencing at home and partly bow and arrow. Outside of the castle, I met my friend, Alexi. To the right of the sunflower field was a thick forest and somewhere inside was an abandoned village. He brought me there along with some other kids from the village attached to our kingdom. He would teach us basic fighting and sword fighting. It was my only break. The same guy would always be there yet I paid no mind, I always kept to myself.
This day I woke up and all I wanted to do was break something. I was at the starting mark of my final week of freedom. God, that's fun to say...
"Hey, come on lassie. Get up," said a thick but soft voice from in my room. I kept my head buried in the depths of my pillow. I loved Kaysie, she was my age and my best friend. Her mom was our top chef and they lived in the castle with us, she had become my own "servant". She did shit, and I preferred it that way. We had so much fun and that would all be over soon.
"No, actually. I'm quite comfortable where I am." I said lifting my head to meet with the bright sun rays pouring into my room.
"Iris, you have preparations to make. Come on," she said lifting my limp body from my bed and I melted into her. She dragged me over to my vanity and I sat down still slumping.
"Preparations?" I asked peering my droopy eyes open.
"Ahem, your wedding," she said and almost as soon as the words left her mouth, I shut them out. I pushed my feet and I stood up before feeling a hand push me right back down.
"You can "escape" after you meet with your parents, they told me to get you. They gave me a cookie," she said brushing through my thick wavy hair and cut through the tangles.
"You betrayed me for a cookie?" I asked looking at her through the mirror. She was so stunning. Her hazelnut skin and brown hair and her nice eyelashes. God, I was so jealous.
"Ya sorry Iris, chin up. Maybe the prince is hot?" she nudged her shoulders and came around and curled my eyelashes and put light makeup on my soft skin.
"God, why can't I find my own love," I asked leaving the vanity and going to my closet to grab my outfit for the day. I grabbed a pair of dark green loose pants and a tight white long sleeve with lace, I also grabbed a tight black sweater and track pants for later.
