𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮 𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮

       Nico Vanderzee was regarded by the unholiest in Ketterdam as a gift from the great sea. It was said that he was born of no woman. Just thrown from the clutches of the vast hav into Ketterdam during the most treacherous storm the port city had seen in over a century... Others, believed the boy was once a fish who had fallen in love with a sailor and was cast from the water as a punishment for his betrayal against the man-hating seas. For, who would ever gift someone great as the boy to a shithole like the barrel?

       But it was all folklore of course, fables, silly little tales —like the sun summoner or a crime free Kerch— that the bar-wenches would tell to ease the disgust the merchants felt when the young Shu tidemaker appeared at their shores. For young Nico, stories were far more convenient than reality. Unfortunately for Nico, the truth always found a way to come out.

Yvette Vanderzee—an etherealki in the second army— gave birth to a Ravkan Shu— worse, a Shu Grisha. After hiding the boy for a long six years, she boarded a boat that would take her to a place where none of it mattered, where the only thing on peoples minds was money and how to make more. She would be free with her son. She would finally be happy...

       Nico Vanderzee floated to shore in an old dirty wooden suitcase after his mother and the rest of the ship were eaten by the storm.

      The whispers of disapproval never stopped... they followed him day in and day out. But truly, who could hear a whisper in a place like Ketterdam?
