Captain Rex x Reader

5. Chapter

The next morning my eyes fluttered open. I sat up in my bed and looked around my room, recalling the events from yesterday. My room was surprisingly tidy and clean. I concentrated on the force and noticed that there is another person in my room. I leaned over the edge of my bed expecting Anakin to lay on the floor sleeping. Instead I come face to face with a sleeping Fives, his helmet laying next to him on the floor. I stood up and kneeled beside him, shaking him to wake up. His eyes snapped open and he looked at me with wide eyes before he relaxed again.

„Good to see that you're finally awake y/n" He said, a smile gracing his lips. I narrowed my eyes at him in confusion, but then it hit me. „How long did I sleep Fives?" I asked hoping that I hadn't missed out on the meeting with Ani, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka. „You were out for two days, General Skywalker didn't want you to be alone when you wake up, that's why I'm here." I couldn't believe it, I slept for two whole days?! That means I missed not only the meeting but also the opportunity to speak with Basta again, since he was taken to Coroussant yesterday. I steadied my breath and calmed down a little.

„So Anakin asked you to keep me company?" I asked, to give no space for uncomfortable silence. „No, as far as I'm concerned, Skywalker asked Rex and Rex came to me." I didn't want to admit it but I was a little disappointed that Rex didn't want to be here. Instead of showing my disappointment, I smiled at Fives and thanked him for taking care of me. Maybe I did something wrong and Rex wants to avoid me, I thought. Then again he's the captain of the 501st so he has better things to do then to babysit me. 

Fives grabbed his helmet and stood up, pulling me with him. „I think you really need to eat something y/n, you've been out for two days after all." I nodded my head in agreement and with that we stepped out into the hallway to go to the cafeteria. When we got there, I looked around the cafeteria in confusion, except a few injured clones no one was here. 

„Where are the others Fives?" I looked at him in confusion and only then I noticed that there wasn't a single clone in the hallways when we went here either. „The others are on a mission General." I sent him a look that said he doesn't have to call me General, but his brothers would probably assume things so I can understand him. 

We sat down at an empty table with our food and started eating in comfortable silence. I used the force to speak telepathically with Fives as to not disturb the healing clones, a skill I learned from my old master. As far as I'm concerned, Anakin and Obi-Wan can do that too. »Hey Fives, what do you think, when will the others be back?« Fives jumped out of his seat and scattered his plate on the floor, his face was pale and he looked like he'd just seen a ghost. The other clones all looked over at us with curious stares. 

I tried holding my laughing in but failed miserably and started laughing hysterically. For a moment my laugh was the only sound in the room but a few seconds later the other clones joined and started laughing too. Fives had a blush on his face and shot glares to everyone, apparently he didn't find the situation as funny as everyone else. 

Fives sat back down and after a couple of minutes the laughter died down and everyone minded their own business again. „I know that might sound crazy but I heard a voice speaking to me." Fives whispered to me with panic written all over his face. „That's not at all crazy Fives. It was me, I used the force to communicate with you telepathically, as to not disturb the others."

„I've never seen the Generals doing that, can they do that too or is that something only you can do?" Fives asked, trying not to sound too curious. „Yes they can do that too, I think it's something most padawans learn from their masters." I answered with a smile gracing my lips. „I'll do it again now so don't be surprised and if you want to answer me you just have to think what you want to say and I'll hear it." He reminded me of an exited kid tasting candy for the first time. 

»Here we go again, so to get back to my question, do you know when the others will be back?«

»Can you hear me?« he answered with wide eyes, I nodded smiling. »Wow that's so cool! To answer your question, I don't really know when the others are gonna be back again.« 

I nodded in understanding and thought about what to do to waste time. »Fives I have an idea, do you want to go train with me? I won't use the force, I promise.«  This time it was Fives turn to nod so we made our way to the training room. The room was empty, like most of the rooms were at this time. 

We sparred for almost 3 hours before someone won,  Fives won but it was very close. We were both panting and extremely exhausted. „It's been some time since I last had a fight this long." I said impressed. He returned the compliment before we shook hands and went our own ways to go take a shower. 

The next week Fives and I grew very close. We practically did everything together. We ate together, we played games together, we joked around and trained together all day long. At this point I'd consider him a brother to me, of course Anakin is my best friend but I'd never think about considering him a brother. 

I was just walking around with Fives when my comlink went off. „Hello there y/n, Obi-Wan here. We're almost back, it'll probably be around 15 minutes before we land in the hangar." I was startled for a moment before I picked my comlink up with excitement to reply. „It's good to hear from you Obi-Wan, I thought we'd have to come rescue you because Anakin did something again." I smirked, knowing that Anakin could hear every word. Obi-Wan giggled and I heard Anakin yelling "hey!" in the background. I suppressed my laughter and started talking again instead. „Everything's gonna be prepared for your landing when you get here Obi-Wan." I shot a playful glare to Fives, who had started laughing quietly. „Thank you y/n, see you then." with that the conversation was ended and we spent the next 15 minutes preparing everything for their arrival. 

Fives and I stood next to each other in the hanger when their ships landed. Soon lots of clones were walking around the hanger and Fives went over to them to hear everything about the mission and to welcome them back. I saw Ahsoka, Cody, Obi-Wan and Anakin walking towards me. Ahsoka and Anakin hugged me and made sure that I was okay before they let go of me. 

I greeted Obi-Wan and Cody with a smile. When Cody took off his helmet I could see worry written all over his face. It was then I noticed that Rex was nowhere to be seen. „Anakin , where is the Captain?" I asked trying to sound as monotonous as possible, but I could see in his eyes that he could feel my true emotions in the force. Anakin's smile dropped and he looked me sad in the eyes. „He got shot in the shoulder during the mission, Rex is unconscious at the moment but he'll make it" I didn't know what to feel, I was sad that he got shot and I was worried for him but at the same time I felt relieved to know that he'll survive. But then Anakin looked even sadder, couldn't look me in the eyes any longer and settled with looking at the floor instead when he mumbled under his breath: „At least we hope he will."
