6 years later
Jason was nervous. His heart was beating half out of his chest and his nerves were all over the place. It was their six-year anniversary, not six years since they got together, nope, but six years since Jason had hit Charlie with a football for the first time because it really had been the day that had started everything. He smiled at his boyfriend, who was in the driver seat of the car, driving them back to their little town where their families were. Six goddamn years and nothing had changed about the way he looked at Charlie, well almost nothing had changed. Charlie's hair was now green instead of blue. Unlike how it had been 6 years ago when he had completely dyed his hair blue, he now just colored the tips. Jason really loved it. It was crazy, but he did.
Jason laughed as Charlie sang along to the radio, bobbing his head up and down to the beat of the music. An overwhelming sense of love and affection swept through him for the man beside him. Charlie really was the love of his life and today, Jason was going to put a ring on his finger.
Or at least he hoped Charlie would say yes. He wouldn't say no...right?
Ah fuck, he was going to get a panic attack if he thought about it again. Charlie wrapped an arm around his waist as they walked into his parents' house.
Jason had already decided where he was going to propose, right on the basketball field which had given them the opportunity to find each other. Maybe it was sappy as fuck, but according to Charlie, Jason was a really sappy romantic.
Who would've thought huh?
After high school, they had gotten an apartment together near Charlie's university which had fortunately also had an art course. Jason now owned a tattoo shop in New Jersey and Charlie and him had recently gotten a puppy. It was all Jason could've ever asked for in his life and he was so fucking fortunate to have finally gotten it.
They had made some new friends along the way and some unlikely ones.
Only Harley and Liam knew about his plan to propose and they had helped him arrange things with their old school. To his shock, Coach Langley still worked there as an Assistant coach.
"Hey Charls", he called out to Charlie, "You wanna visit our old school? See how it's doing now?"
Charlie excitedly nodded, "Yeah, I miss that damn place"
So had Jason. High school was high school man. You meet new people and no matter what stage of life you're in, nothing could beat the utter weirdness and excitement of highschool.
So, they headed to the school and Jason patted his pockets almost every five minutes to make sure his ring was still there. When they reached the basketball field, he spotted coach Langley whistling to the kids to keep moving. They hadn't lost touch. The coach was like a father figure to him, supporting him through his life choices and Jason was so very grateful for that.
Coach Langley's face broke out into the biggest grin when he saw them, "Well I'll be damned, Jason Pierce and Charlie Hayes, who would've thought"
Jason couldn't help but laugh, "All thanks to you coach"
The old man thumped Charlie on the back, "Maybe, but you boys managed to stay together through it all, now that's pretty remarkable if you ask me"
"Thanks Coach, that means a lot"
"Alright, I'll see you kids cause I gotta go before those two kill each other", he pointed to two guys on the field, football players, chest puffed out as if they were about to punch each other.
"Yikes, yeah go ahead"
Jason looked at Charlie as Coach left, searching his face, he was smiling at Jason, dimples popping up. Jason was going to do this; it was now or never.
With a deep breath, he dropped to one knee, looking up at Charlie, who gasped, his hand flying to his mouth in shock.
Jason grinned tearily, "When I first met you, we were just kids, stupid kids who never realized how strong what we had was. But then I had to be an idiot and broke that bond. I've never believed in soul mates Char, but falling in love with you showed me that soulmates really did exist and you are it for me, you're my everything baby, I love you so fucking much and I'll continue to tell you that every damn day if you're up for it", he choked on his words, emotions clogging his throat, "So Charlie Hayes, will you marry me?"
Charlie dropped down onto his knees, his arms enveloping Jason in a bone crushing hug, he was shaking, Jason realized.
"Fuck yes I'll marry you; I love you so much", Charlie breathed against his neck, hands clutching the back of his shirt tightly. Jason pulled away for a minute to slide the ring onto his finger. It was a perfect fit.
And Jason was hugging him again, breathing in the scent he was so familiar with. He felt Charlie giggle when he heard Liam's loud whooping followed by Grant Elmers' excited laugh, "Fuck yeah! That's my boy"
Amidst all the happiness he felt, Jason wanted to cry. He had done it, he finally had Charlie Hayes in his arms and it was with a promise of forever.
The end
A/N: It's done. I had so much fun writing this and I'm so glad i get to share it with you guys. Some of Charlie's thoughts and insecurities were based off of me so his character was very personal to me. I hope you enjoyed reading, 'Wouldn't Dream Of It'. Follow me for updates on the sequel!
