Aria's pov
I practically ran toward my biology class, the conversation with Edward still fresh in my mind. I couldn't help but wonder why he would choose to take an interest in me.
Luckily, Mr. Molina wasn't in the room yet, so I quickly slid into my seat next to Bella. To my surprise, she was glaring at me while also looking completely confused.
"Where is Edward, and why did he need you?" my older sister asked.
"He was just asking if I was okay... you know, because of the accident," I told her.
It was a lie, but she didn't need to know that.
Then again, I wasn't even sure why I was lying. It wasn't like us talking to each other was a sin or anything.
Bella didn't look convinced, but Mr. Molina entered the room before she could question me further, calling for the class's attention. In his hands were a few small cardboard boxes, which he placed on Mike's table.
"Alright, guys," he said. "I want everyone to come up here, take one item from each box, and return to your seats."
He slipped on a pair of rubber gloves—the kind doctors wear—and began pulling items from the box while explaining them.
The first item he held up was an indicator card—a white card with four small squares on it.
The second was a four-pronged applicator, which looked like a toothless hair pick.
The last item was a sterile micro-lancet, which was really just a fancy way of saying needle.
I already knew what he wanted us to do before he even said it, and my stomach turned.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Bella getting paler and paler as Mr. Molina grabbed Mike's hand and pricked his finger. A drop of scarlet blood fell onto the card.
That's when a bell went off in my head.
Bella's head hit the table with a soft thud.
As more students pricked their fingers, the scent of rusted metal filled the air. My head started spinning, and my breathing turned into shallow pants.
Mr. Molina began walking around the room while I finally let my own head drop onto the cool surface of the desk, ending up in the same miserable position as Bella.
"Aria? Bella? Are you two alright?"
His voice sounded alarmed as it reached my ears. I would have answered him, but I was afraid that if I opened my mouth, I might throw up right there in front of everyone.
"We already know our blood type, Mr. Molina," Bella said weakly.
"Are the two of you feeling faint?"
"Yes, sir," Bella muttered.
I simply lifted a shaky hand and gave him a weak thumbs-up.
All I could think about was how stupid I had been for not ditching class with Edward when I had the chance.
"Can someone take Aria and Bella to the office?" Mr. Molina asked.
It didn't take a genius to guess who volunteered.
Mike Newton.
The boy looked far too eager as he wrapped one arm around each of us and practically carried us out of the room.
We didn't make it very far before the dizziness overwhelmed me. My legs gave out, and I collapsed onto the ground, my head resting against the freezing, dirty sidewalk.
