Aria's pov

We arrived home from La Push much later than we expected because Jacob and his friends had started a bonfire that everyone wanted to stay for. Jacob made sure I stayed close enough to the fire to stay warm, but not so close that the embers could hurt Ellayla or me.

We didn't get home until around midnight. By the time we did, both Ellayla and I collapsed onto my bed and fell asleep without even changing our clothes.

The next morning, I woke up to a bright light shining directly on my face.

Confused, I looked out my window and was shocked by what I saw.

Sunshine.

It was incredibly rare to see the sun shining in Forks, Washington. Ninety percent of the time, it was raining, snowing, or just plain cloudy.

I couldn't help but smile as I ran to grab Ellayla so she could enjoy the sunshine too.

I carried her downstairs and out the back door before clipping her onto her chain.

"Here you go, Ellayla," I said, scratching behind her ears. "Since it's sunny outside, I'm going to put you on your chain while I get dressed for school."

I rarely put Ellayla on the chain because she was always such a good puppy, but seeing her bask happily in the sunlight made me want to let her enjoy it.

She'd only be out here for about an hour while I got ready and made breakfast.

I headed back upstairs and dug into the back of my closet for some warm-weather clothes—something that didn't happen often in Forks. I pulled out a light dress, a pair of sandals, and a jean vest.

After a quick shower, I styled my hair into two low pigtails and curled the ends.

Once I was done, I went downstairs and started making breakfast. I cooked scrambled eggs for Ellayla and an omelet with mushrooms, cheese, and bacon for both Dad and me.

After plating the food, I went outside to get Ellayla.

She was practically sunbathing in the grass.

I laughed softly, scooping my baby up into my arms before bringing her back inside so we could eat breakfast together.

Daddy came downstairs while I was washing the dishes. He greeted me with a kiss on the top of my head before sitting down to eat his omelet.

"So... you and Bella came home pretty late last night."

"Yeah," I replied. "We ran into Jacob and his friends, and they started a bonfire."

The conversation ended there, and Daddy continued eating in silence.

That was one of the big differences between my parents. Daddy and I could sit together quietly without it feeling awkward, while Mom always loved to talk about everything.
