The beat marches on like a mallet to
a fearless drum.
Thu-thump. Thu-thump: all through
the echoing song, and then it comes.
The wailing cries of violins that
tell a tale of woeful life.
Thu-thump. Thu-thump.
The chellos come in like a cat
to the mat: soft and dreary, but content.
Thu-thump. Thu-thump.
Then the rest of the orchestra joins in the strife
and the world knows who is the saddest instrument.
Thu-thump. Thu-thump.
And the drums slow.
Thu----thump. Thu--------thump.
And dies by its foe.
Thu----------thump. Thu-...
And dies by its foe.
