Donovan Nicholas was fourteen years old when he fatally shot his father's girlfriend and stabs her. According to court documents Donovan waited for the victim to head up the stairs to answer a phone call when he grabbed his fathers gun and shoted her twice from behind. Nicholas who was quickly arrested attempted to tell police that the murder was committed by his alter ego names Jeff based on Jeff the killer, however they did not believe him nor did the jury at trial.

No one disputes how Heidi Taylor (the girlfriend) died - after more than five dozen stab wounds and with a final, fatal shot to the head - but more than a year later, the teenage boy convicted of murdering her in their home maintains he is not to blame.

There he lay bleeding from an inadvertent leg wound sustained while he was stabbing the 40-year-old Taylor with a kitchen knife, over and over. Dressed up as Jeff the killer, even slashing his mouth with a small blade in a impression of Jeff's rictus.
In a chilling called he 911, Donovan Nicholas told the dispatcher he was not to blame, but had been "taken over" by somebody called "Jeff".

"I'm sorry, this will come out really hard to explain but I kind of have another person inside me," he said.

"He killed her, he snapped".

He claimed "Jeff" was "tired" of Ms Taylor, and claimed she used drugs.

"I am so scared, I didn't want to kill her," he said.

"I hate Jeff so much. He's going to make me die in prison."

"Jeff", US media has reported, is based on the internet urban legend of "Jeff the Killer".

The character is usually depicted as an insane, sadistic killer with a white face, wide grin, and no eyelids and nose.

Nicholas's defence claimed he had dissociative identity disorder, which the prosecution rejected.

The jury agreed with the latter, convicting Nicholas in July this year as an adult of aggravated murder.

He has been sentenced to life in jail and will be eligible for parole in 28 years, but his defence has indicated they will appeal the decision.
