"Shit."

You had just assumed his bashfulness was a part of his personality; how he expressed himself to others.

There was nothing you could say to make him feel better about himself even though you wanted to make him feel better.

You wanted to embrace him and wring out the anguish.

You wanted to show Tadashi the love he deserves.

You wanted to ensure his happiness.

You wanted to reassure him that you liked him back.

You wanted to reassure yourself that you liked him back.

However, you were incapable of doing any of these as you knew deep down that your heart lies with someone else.

Before you could respond, Yamaguchi says, "Will you go on a date with me?"

You did not show the true depths of conflict you felt in your expression as your mind raced with thoughts. "Look Tadashi, I really like you as a friend and I don't want to hurt you..."

"But you like someone else." He finishes your sentence and drops his gaze to look at the ground separating the two of you, kicking the soil with his foot as he draws circles in the dirt.

You look at him with astonishment and ask, "What do you mean by that?"

Giving you a weak smile, he affirms, "Isn't it obvious? You like Noya."

You open your mouth to respond, but nothing comes out. The only word racing through your mind is, "yes" as you nod look down at your feet to escape his gaze.

"It was a long shot anyway, thank you." He assures you as he leaves you by the side of the clubrooms to ponder your options. "Why are you thanking me?" You thought to yourself as you rubbed your temple and turn on your heel to head back to the gym.

After practice ends, you walk home with Kiyoko in silence, still concerned with how events with Yamaguchi went down.

"What happened?" Kiyoko asks as you walk home in silence. You turn to look at her with concern as she gives you a smug smile.

"You know what I'm talking about," Kiyoko responds as you turn back to watch the road ahead of you.

"Yamaguchi told me he liked me," you sighed as she turned to face you as you continued, "I told him I don't like him like that, and he said that it was because I like Noya."

"Well, is that true?"

"I don't know! I mean maybe but," you cut yourself off from saying anything more as you were not sure what else there was to say.

"But..." Kiyoko pushes after a while of silence.

"I don't know." You reply as you shove your hands in your pockets and burrow your chin in the neck of your jacket.

"Fuck, no. Why him?" Why me?" Your emotions dominated your thoughts as you sludge along on the trek home.

The next day, you sat in English Literature, contemplating the existence of life and whether or not you should actually stay in this stupid place or just hippity-hop out of the window.

You turn in your seat to see Nishinoya pouring glue on his hands and smearing it all over his skin. You smirk as you ask, "Hey, can I have some of that glue?"

"Yeah, sure. Just don't let the teacher see it."

He pours a glob of the glue into your hands as you rub it and wait for it to dry. Once dried, you peel the glue to make it look like your skin is falling off. You pick up one of the pieces from your desk and examine the crevasse and ridges in it, the details of your skin making its impressions in the glue.
