No matter what happens, you're not going back. You lived in New York before running away from your family because you didn't feel like you belonged there. Your dad married someone new ever since your mom passed and you hated it. Your step-mom was cruel and she hated you. One day, you couldn't take it anymore so you just left; never looking back.

For some weird reason you ended up in Coal Creek, West Virginia. It's a small town and there was only a small population of people there. You are now working as a cashier at a small grocery shop and it doesn't pay much, but it did pay the bills.

Lenora and her grandmother, Emma, were always there every week. You know them because you see them all the time at the grocery shop and they're usually quiet and kept to themselves. On this particular day, though, Emma was nowhere to be found. It was only Lenora and she had her basket full when she reached your counter. Lenora didn't like falling in line at someone else's register. She liked you and she wanted you to be her friend.

You smiled when you saw her and began scanning the items. "This is a lot, Lenora. Got a party?" You asked. She blushed and shook her head, "No. Arvin thought it was a good idea to buy two weeks worth of groceries because he got a bonus for his paycheck yesterday."

"Oh." You nodded. "That's really nice."

She smiled and waited for you to finish your job. You put the items in a paper bag and told her the amount she has to pay. She gave you the exact amount and you put the money in the cash register. You were looking at the clock and saw Lenora struggling with the bags in your peripheral vision. You turned to her and smiled, "Do you need help? You're my last customer. I'll be going home straight after."

"If you don't mind." She chuckled. "They're all heavy." You clocked out of your work, grabbed your coat, and helped her with the bags.

"Y/N, are you seeing anyone? Like, are you single?" Lenora asked and you shook your head.

"No. I'm not interested in those things at the moment. I have to earn first before starting a family or even go on dates." You told her and she nodded.

You went out of the grocery shop and you asked her, "How are you going home?"

"Arvin'll pick me up." Lenora said and you nodded. "I'll wait with you." You smiled at her as you talked about random things like school or your job.

Arvin's car pulled up in front of both of you and Lenora opened the door of the back seat to put the bags in there. You did the same and you heard Arvin and Lenora whispering to each other.

"You got the bacon?" Arvin asked.

"No." Lenora shook her head.

"I told you to buy it." Arvin said.

"Well, I didn't! What's important about it anyway? We can survive without it." Lenora said, clearly annoyed. Typical angsty teen.

You closed the door of the back seat and moved to look at them through the passenger side's window. "I can buy it for you, if you want." You said kindly.

"That would be am-"

"Don't bother, Y/N. He's being unreasonable." Lenora said before rolling her eyes.

"It's no problem." You chuckled and walked back inside the grocery shop to buy some bacon for Arvin.

Arvin smirked and looked at Lenora, who shook her head. "What is it with you and bacon recently?"

"I like waking up to the smell of bacon, sue me." Arvin shrugged. Not even five minutes later, you came back with a small bag of bacon and handed it to Arvin through the driver's window.

"Thank you." He said gratefully. "We can bring you home."

"Yes, Y/N. It'll be no problem." Lenora said.

"Okay, thank you. I hope it's no trouble." You said before getting in the back seat. You told Arvin your address before continuing to talk to Lenora about random things. Sometimes Arvin would join in.

"So what are you doing in Coal Creek?" Arvin asked.

You laughed, "I'm running away from my responsibilities and it feels good."

"It must be nice." Arvin said quietly.

"It is. I'm an expert at that. It allows me to start fresh." You said as you see the house you've been renting coming into view. "You can stop here. This is my house." You said as Arvin stopped the car in front of your house.

"Get home safe and thanks for the ride." You smiled at them before getting out of the car and walking into your house.

Arvin drove off and asked, "Is Y/N single?"

"I knew it!" Lenora squealed. "Y/N doesn't have time for relationships, but you can try. I think I can see both of you together."

"Really?" Arvin asked and Lenora nodded. That was what remained in Arvin's mind for the rest of the ride home. He imagined his life if you were permanently in it and he liked it. He'll make sure to come see you often if he's not busy.
