February 20th of 2020

~~~~~~Gia POV~~~~~~
I applied the fire sticks on Jacob as he was sleeping in my lap. We were currently in the back of a red SUV with Irene in the passengers seat and some Mexican dude in the drivers. I assumed he was a professional smuggler, considering he knew exactly where he was going.
Jacob stretched before placing a hand in my thigh and moving it up and down.
"What time is it, love?...Better yet, what's the date." He asked huskily.
"You slept all night, it's February 20th of 2020 Jacob." I chuckled at him.
He put his head back on my lap and mumbled before going back to sleep.
"Hold it." Irene said sternly while placing her hand up.
I looked outside at our surroundings and noticed that we were on the big bridge. A short and stubby figure approached our SUV before Irene rolled down the window.
"ID's?" His low voice filled the car.
The man stepped closer to the car as then I could see what he looked like. He reminded me of the colonel from KFC. His grayish white hair blew in the wind as dark clouds hovered the midnight sky. Jacob sat up and pulled out our fake ID's and handed them to Irene. Irene passed them to the man and looked back at us sending a signal saying "don't say anything unless I tell you to!"
The colonel signaled for his men to come over to the car and inspect.
"Get out of the car." One of the men pointed his gun at Irene and the other man pointed his gun and Jacob.
We all got out of the car and stood against it.
"Search them." The man with gray hair demanded. All of us put our hands up as the men searched us. My breathing picked up as one of the men's hands traveled down to my pocket. Right where I hid the map and the fire sticks.
I can't use my invisibility power right now or else I'd rat all of us out. His hand glided over the pocket just before he walked away. I mentally sighed and looked at Jacob as they searched him. A third man came over. He was dressed in all black. He held a leash in his hand as he came over to us with a German Shepherd.
The man cleared his throat and looked at Jacob.
"I'm Mr. Coleman, that's all you'll need to know about me for right now." The elder man spoke.
"What do you want with us?" Jacob asked.
"Don't worry I don't want anything to do with you I just have to do regular check ups on everyone that passes on the bridge." The man said as the German Shepard sniffed us before whimpering. The elderly man raised a brow and squinted at me and Jacob.
"Arrest them." He demanded the men and smirked at us.
"What...you can't do that, we didn't do anything!" I yelled as one of the men came up behind me and tried to handcuff me.
"You're so quick to prove yourself innocent when knowing damn well or guilty" He spat.
Jacob swiftly yanked the handcuffs off and bent them in the process.
I stared at him in shock as he fought off 2 the men.
"WAIT WAIT STOP!!! PLEASE!" The elder man yelled out. Jacob ran over to me and ripped the handcuffs like they were paper. He did the same to Irene and snatched a gun from one of the men and pointed it at them.
"Don't you dare fuck with my family...nor the people who help us or you'll meet the bullets to the gun pretty fucking quick." Jacob growled at them before pointed to the SUV.
"Get back in." He never took his eyes away from the men as he backed away and stepped into the backseat of the car.
"Step on it." Jacob demanded the driver while putting the gun into his back pocket.
I gulped as I stared up at him. Jacob wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me close to him. The car ride was silent besides the faint sound of 'Alone and Forsaken by Hank Williams' played throughout the car . I hear Jacob mumble "I'm sorry about how I scared you earlier" in my ear.
I nodded and laid my head in his lap and closed my eyes.
"You gained a power didn't you?" I asked.
"Mhm. Super strength." He said quietly while poking my boob.
"Stoppp." I giggled at him.
"Nah...I don't wanna." He continued to poke me until I began laughing loudly.
3 HOURS LATER
~~~~~~Jacob POV~~~~~~

I lightly poked at Gia's arm and grabbed her hand. She sniffled before following me out of the car. I could tell she has clueless as to where we were until she looked down at the maroon painted driveway. The driveway was filled with little drawings that children had made years before. Gia stopped in her steps and bent down. Her hands grazed over the dark concrete as she sniffled. This time it wasn't clear her nose...but rather to stop the tears. She got up as I embraced her into a hug. Right then I felt it, tear drops on my shirt. She fists pounded on my chest as she sobbed lightly.

"God I miss him." Gia said, referring to her late brother, Giovanni.

Her mom was your casual little Italian girl who was the new exchange student around 14. Her father was your average little black boy who was the class clown. They met, her dad fell in love and that was history. By the time Gia's mom was 22 she and Gia's father had a family.

Giovanni and Giovanna Carter.

Twin baby boy and girl.

Everything was fine until on their 5th birthday they were having a pink, blue & white party. As they were opening up their presents. Gia's father brought out a toy car that they can ride in. Gia stayed back with her mom and ate the last bit of her cake while Giovanni hopped in the car and rode around in the driveway. One glare away from Giovanni and a huge tuck came speeding down the road. Giovanni wasn't looking as he slowly inched across the road...
That was the end of him.
Gia's family rarely to never talk about, nor do they like to call her by her biological name simply because it reminds them of Gia's brother too much.

Gia wiped her eyes before she read one of the quotes on the pavement.

"Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure...you are loved beyond words, and missed beyond measure" She read aloud.

Irene waved at us from the car before it pulled off leaving only Gia and I outside staring at her parents house.

"I never thought that we would make it back." She said before slowly approaching the door. The first step Gia took into the whitely painted wooden porch, she took in a deep huff of air before inching closer to the door.

I stood adjacent to her as she picked up her hand, formed it into a fist and held it close to the door.

Knock, knock, knock
