Chapter twelve

***Isaac***

"What is this I hear of about a new policy you implemented?" My father asked

I.Am.in.deep.shit.

"Oh hello dad" I said

"Don't hello me! Answer my damn question! What the hell were you thinking?"

Shit Shit Shit.

"I thought it would be a good idea?" I tried to think of something to convince him "Wasn't it you who once told me that I should be more involved in your businesses?" I said

"Yes but you cannot enforce your own policies Isaac, you are in no position to do so!" He screamed

Oh here we go again. He's just going to keep screaming for the next hour so I might as well just hang up on him.

I was just about to hang up when I heard him call my name

"Hello?..Isaac.. Hello.. are you there?"

"What?" I spat at him

"Look, it is true that it is not your job to enforce policies and you have no right to do so without FIRST consulting with ME" he paused for a second then continued "HOWEVER, I was actually impressed with the policy you came up with, I am not sure why you came up with it but I actually thought it was a good idea.. Maybe America IS doing you some good after all"

What the hell? Is this guy bipolar?

"Um. Thanks?" I said confused

There was an awkward silence for the next thirty seconds of the phone call.

"Gotta get back to work. Bye" he hung up quickly

I chuckled - he finds it so difficult to compliment me.

I heard the door open and in came an upset looking Anna.

She plopped down on her bed and sighed

"Hi, how was your date?" I said even if I knew exactly how it went.

She looked at me and said "As much as I hate to say this.. You were right, Isaac."

"I am always right baby" I winked at her and she rolled her eyes at me

"Now, tell me what happened" I asked

"He actually turned out to be a rapist which is crazy because you predicted it" she paused then continued "It was crazy the manager of the restaurant told us about this new policy....

For the next half hour she proceeded to tell me about how much of a disaster the date was. I couldn't help but feel proud of myself for pulling all that off.

"..this always happens..always"

Anna mumbled under her breath

"What?" I asked curiously

"Nothing" she said

"You can tell me, Anna" I told her

She sighed heavily then turned her head to face me.

She opened her mouth and said something that broke my heart.

"Just when I start opening up to people they always let me down.. ALWAYS. They turn out to be either liars or cheaters or both! It always happens! I am beginning to think that I should give up on people once and for all.. I literally can't trust anyone but myself. And What happened today confirmed just that"

After she said that last word I couldn't help but feel really guilty. I wasn't any different than the people she was talking about, I lied to her about not having enough money.. I was behind the whole date disaster with Travis. However, I do not regret that because he did turn to have a bad criminal history.

I looked up to see Anna looking so vulnerable and broken, as if she had been let down too many times in her life.

I couldn't help but get up and settle myself next to her. I grabbed her hand and said,

"You can trust ME, Anna."

I wasn't sure if she really could trust me. But I felt like she needed to hear that right now.

And she did, because her eyes sparkled as she smiled up at me.

I love it when she smiles. She deserves to smile more and I will make sure of that.

Let's just hope she never finds out the truth.
