At the end of the day as the bell dismissed my class from astronomy, I grabbed my books and headed for the door. I made my way to my locker trying to get around all the antsy teenagers ready to get out of school. It was hard not to run into people as I walked through the commons; since it was basically the center of socializing and a good meet-up spot for the end of the day. About 20 feet from the doors to an open space, Noah Hanson caught my eye. I couldn't help but stare as he grabbed his book bag and car keys. I glanced at the clock, he had 20 minutes to get to the mall to start his shift at Starbucks. Psh, I didn't know his shift schedule at Starbucks by heart.... OK. Maybe I did. But that is only because I planned my mall trips around his being there... God, what was wrong with me? He was still gathering most of his stuff and I was so into what he was doing that I forgot what I was doing and where I was walking. The next thing I knew, I was on the ground, books scattered and my glasses thrown somewhere. Of course. I had just fallen in front of every high school student AND Noah Hanson. I heard giggles from every direction and felt the blood rush to my face. I felt around for my glasses, picked up my books and sped walked towards the door. Noah-freaking-Hanson had just seen me fall. My life could not get any worse.

I reached my locker, threw my books inside, grabbed my bag and headed toward the parking lot to meet Maddie.

“I am such an idiot,” I said to her.

“What?”

“I am such an idiot!” I cried.

“Emma, what happened?”

“I fell.”

“Oh God, where?” Maddie asked.

“In the middle of the commons. Maddie...”

“What?”

“Noah saw.”

“Shit.”

“My thoughts exactly!” I put my hand to my forehead and rested my elbow on my knees. “Like, Noah probably thinks I'm the stupidest person ever. All I wanted was for him to notice me. Just not this way.... God, Maddie.”

“Don't worry, he'll forget by tomorrow. Believe me. I'm sure you're not the only one who has fallen in the commons! I mean... remember sophomore year? Carlie Paxton slipped on the wet floor and everyone saw? And.... Samantha Ritz fell just a couple weeks ago while running to class to get a good seat. Em, it's okay.”

“Whatever. Will you take me by my house so I can get my wallet?”

“Sure.”

Maddie put her foot to the pedal and drove out of the school parking lot. I rolled down the window to get some fresh air. Okay, I'm okay now. It's not a big deal. I kept talking to myself and telling myself everything was okay. About five minuets later Maddie turned onto Prescott Drive. We both lived on the same street, about two houses apart. Lucky, I know.

“Kay, go get your stuff then meet me at my house in ten,” Maddie instructed.

“Alright,” I said as I got out of the passenger seat.

My house was beige, four stories tall, and had a round tower on the top right that looked like a smaller version of a lighthouse. That tower happened to be my room.

I shut the door behind me and walked towards the chinese staircase that led to my room. My little brother was at soccer practice, my dad was working, and my mom was probably running errands. I got to my room, closed my window and sat on my bed. My computer was next to me and I couldn't help but open it up. I clicked on google chrome and typed in facebook. As I scrolled through the news feed all I thought was how stupid some people could be. Like, reading “Eating cereal,” Who the hell cares? God, some of these girls needed a reality check. After about five minuets I got so annoyed with some of the things girls posted just to make their boobs look bigger or to crave attention, so I logged off and slammed my laptop's screen shut. I stood up, grabbed my wallet and a hoodie and made my way towards Maddie's house.
