After checking out (yes, I bought the dress), Maddie and I made our way over to Starbucks.
“He was totally checking you out,” Maddie remarked.
“He was not,” I told her. I mean he hadn't checked me out, had he? No. That's crazy, I told myself.
“Well, I don't blame him... you look amazing in that dress,” Maddie told me.
“Whatever,” I blew off the compliment, linked my arm through hers and sighed.
“I probably just bought that dress for no reason.”
“Look, if you don't get a date I'll blow off Ian and come with you to the Bash,” Maddie told me. Ian. Ian Nunes. He had been Maddie's steady boyfriend since seventh grade. Even though I never really liked him, I swore they were going to get married one day.
“No, don't do that! I'll just go alone,” I said assuringly, although inside I did not want to show up to that dance alone.
“Emma, you're my best friend. I will not let you walk through those doors alone,” she said. I smiled.
“Thanks Maddie, you're the best.”
“I know,” She giggled.
We were one turn away from Starbucks and I could just about smell the different types of coffee being brewed and I could picture Noah smiling at everyone he met. My heart went crazy at the thought of Noah Hanson taking my order. Maddie noticed my excitement and told me I was insane. At times, I swore she was able to read my mind.
As we stepped into line at Starbucks I planned my order in my head. A grande, caramel frappuccino, with no whipped cream and extra caramel. My mouth watered in anticipation of this wonderful beverage. Noah was taking orders and I was up next. My heart started pounding and the butterflies in my stomach arose- sending goosebumps all over my body.
“Hey,” Noah said.
“Hi,” I replied.
“What can I get for you?” Noah asked.
“Uh- a grande, caramel frappuccino, no whipped cream and extra caramel, please.”
“Okay, that will be four dollars and seventy five cents,” Noah exclaimed. I reached to get my wallet and pulled out a five dollar bill.
“Hey, you're Emma, right? You go to Norberry High with me.”
Oh. My. God.
“Yeah, I am,” I told him.
“Sweet, well I liked that dress that you were trying on in Watermelohn,” Noah told me.
“Thanks,” I replied. I felt the blood rush to my face, my heart pound even harder, and the butterflies fluttered in a frenzy once again.
“Yeah, see you around, Emma. Next person, please?” Noah rose his voice so Maddie could hear him. I walked to the pick up table and just about fainted. Noah Hanson knew who I was. He complimented me on my dress.
After Maddie ordered she came over grabbed my hands and squealed.
“Noah knows who you are!”
“Is this real life?” I asked half serious, half joking.
“Dude, yes!” Maddie assured me. We both arose in another set of squeals.
“Grande caramel, and a tall pumpkin spice,” the man, not Noah, behind the counter called out. Maddie and I went, grabbed our orders and skipped our way out of the food court.
