As I step off the elevator the smell from the Cinnabon cart at the campus cafe invaded my nose and my mouth began to water. I pushed my hair back as I got in the short line eagerly waiting.
Being a mother of twins was definitely a full time job and along with the accelerated dual law program I was in. My advisor never once told me to give up or wait. He is pushing me to still strive for greatness and I'm still top of my class. We only had 6 months left.
After buying my Cinnabon I walked through a set of double doors and found a table outside on the terrace overlooking the main quad. It was a beautiful sunny day and the stanford campus is gorgeous.
I pulled out my mac book, air pods and my notes so I could finish my latest assignment.
"Those make you gain weight." I looked up from my phone and saw Tara.
I rolled my eyes hard ignoring her ignorance. She's had it out for me since day one. I think she maybe racist because I'm the only black student in the dual accelerated law degree program and she is so sweet to everyone else.
"Are you going for one of four internships at Winston & Strawn?" She crossed her arms over her chest. I sighed deeply putting my phone face down looking at her smug face. "I might be Tara...why?"
She shrugged her shoulders. "I don't think they'll hire someone like...you." She looked me up and down speaking nonchalantly causing me the chuckle.
"You have 5 seconds to walk away before I show you how someone like me acts." Her eyes grew in size as she hurried away from me. She wanted me to be an angry black woman and I gave her the little taste of what she was hoping for.
